Before & After School Care

Weekly Highlights - Term 3 Week 3

Gardening at Lalor East PS TheirCare

Here is our land, here is our sky, here are our children and here am I. We stand together hand in hand to appreciate the Aboriginal People of this land.

Playing is the natural for children to learn and develop new physical, intellectual and emotional skills. Here at Lalor East TheirCare children this week were able to join and participate in many meaningful learning experiences like gardening, cooking classes, science and making a slime, indoor soccer and outdoor basketball classes.

Also this week, children were able to assist the educator clean up and set up our community garden and together with the educators create a plan on what are we going to plant for this upcoming session. We also spoke about science and learnt how to make a slime. Cooking was also part of our program for this week and based on our children's interest we made rainbow cupcakes.

Science and cooking education activities provide children with opportunities to develop and practice many different skills and attribute. These include communication skills, collaborative skills, team working and perseverance, as well as analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Help them expand their vocabulary by using scientific terms that are appropriate for their age group

Science Week

Science education plays an important role in helping children develop communication, critical thinking, problem solving and logical thinking skills. These skills aren’t just important for science class; kids will use them throughout their school and working lives. That means a strong science foundation during childhood could continue to benefit students for decades to come.

Here at Lalor East TheirCare children were involved in many science experiments like bouncing egg, growing rainbow, watch our herb garden grow, making slime, clay explorations and fun sand play. Science exists all around us. That might seem obvious to adults, but children are only just beginning their learning journey, and science holds the answer to thousands of questions they’re burning to ask. Exposing students to science education isn’t just great for critical thinking, it can also encourage a curiosity that will serve your students well throughout school, work and the rest of their lives!

Weekly Highlights - Term 3 Week 5

Book Week

Book Week is always my favourite celebration during the year. It’s a perfect opportunity to celebrate, enjoy and simply read our most loved books. This week fosters a love for reading, enhance literacy skills, and encourages creative and imagination in children. Plus, it gives us a wonderful opportunity to dress up in our favourite book characters and be super creative with arts and crafts.

This week, we have been super busy making Dr Seuss’s Lorax characters, answering a quiz on children’s books, building extraordinary building block palaces and accessories for their costumes.

The children have enjoyed playing in the gym with our new fancy balls and relaxing with a wonderful picnic in the sunshine, while eating yummy fruit and a healthy snack. We have played games in both playgrounds and our favourite location the sandpit. We also completed two drills this week (accidently), the children are now experts in our safety.

REMINDERS:

Parents are required to get their child/ren warmer jackets as we encourage and support indoor/outdoor play.
