My pen and ink drawing for our fantasy theme is inspired by a game that I really love, set in a medieval fantasy world. The game is known for its dark and cruel atmosphere, and I took parts of that feeling and combined them into my own work. The design for this piece is based on an area in the game where players must navigate through an unforgiving thicket filled with strange enemies hiding in the shadows. I included many unique characters to give the drawing an eerie and uncomfortable feeling. Using pen and ink allowed me to create a dim, shadowy background that draws attention to the main focus of the piece. I think this artwork captures the qualities of fantasy and shows the cruel, mysterious world that inspired me.

My pen and ink drawing was inspired by the imagery of body horror from horror games, movies and shows that I love to resemble the theme of fantasy. My inspiration was from games from the Fear and Hunger series, Still wakes the deep, The last of us and feed me Billy. I was also influenced by movies and shows such as The substance, Stranger things and Parasyte: The grey. What they all had in common was that they all have an ominous and thrilling atmosphere to them and the variety of imagination and artistic expressiveness in these games, movies and shows that really capture the detail in texture. They encouraged me to use the element of texture in my artwork to give my drawing the structure and sense of feel to make my work seem more disturbing. The multiple techniques I used consisted of all throughout my drawing to create an eerie feeling by creating shadows and applying form. A different technique depending on the area of the piece. With the variety of detail and contrast, believe that my artwork was able to give of an unsettling presence to it and bring out the darker side to the theme of fantasy.

My still life artwork shows how a variety of colours such as complimentary, primary and tertiary colours, create a change of perspective from the audience, encouraging them to view the subject in a more expressive and emotional way Through the use of contrast and balance throughout each object in the painting, the colours help highlight different elements of the piece, drawing attention to specific areas and guiding the viewer’s focus. This creates a sense of depth and meaning, allowing each person to interpret the artwork in their own way.
