Reconciliation Action Plan

INTRODUCING OUR RAP AMBASSADORS

As previously announced at assembly, the RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) Team has welcomed new members this year.

In this newsletter, we will unveil who they are, share their opinions, and highlight why they chose to join the RAP Team. From their values to their vision, you'll get an inside look at what drives them and how they plan to contribute to our important mission.

How did you hear about the opportunity to join the RAP Team?

"Well, Ms Nield told me that I kind of had to join since my mum is a member too... [laugh] but I also really wanted to join"

- Odie, 3/4A

"Our teacher told us about it and asked who wanted to join. I thought it was really interesting, so I put my hand up!"

- Dottie, 3/4B

"Ms Nield approached me and told me she thought it would be a great opportunity for me to get involved and bring my experience as a Year 5/6 student"

- Sofie, 5/6B

What made you want to join?

"The idea of helping people learn about Aboriginal People"

- Samuel, 3/4D

"I think it's a really good and interesting cause to fight for"

- Lottie, 3/4C

"Because usually the Year 5/6 have the important roles so I thought this would be a good opportunity to get involved as a Year 3/4 student"

-Odie, 3/4A

"I agree with Odie and I think it's better for Year 3/4 to get involved in this, as the Year 5/6 have already so many projects and things to think about"

- Dottie, 3/4B

"Learning how to help Aboriginal People feeling safe and also learning how they can help us by teaching us their ways of doing things"

- Sofie, 5/6B

What is your main goal being involved in this team?

"Make sure that people are not only aware of First Nations People, but that they understand them and their culture"

- Lottie, 3/4C

"Getting everyone involved in this journey, not only us (the RAP Team)"

- Odie, 3/4A

"Make the school a safe place for First Nations People, but also helping others learn about them so that what happened never happens again"

- Samuel, 3/4D

What do you think about people's knowledge regarding First Nations People?

"I feel like people don't have that much knowledge about them. They are aware of their existence and their culture, but they don't have a deep knowledge"

- Dottie, 3/4B

"Yes, I also feel like it's not perfect but it's better than what it used to be. People seem more and more supportive of their cause"

- Lottie, 3/4C

"I've learned that they recently started talking more about First Nations People to Prep students. In Year 5/6, we talk about it quite a lot, so I think it will get better."

- Sofie, 5/6B

The Interview ended with a question about the RAP Team's upcoming projects, but so far, they're still at the organisation stage. However, we could see a lot of excitement and great ideas emerging!
