Year 1/2 Learning Community

Growing our brains with Mrs Dallas, Mrs J, and Mrs Jacobs!

Literacy

This week, we started our mentor text, The Truck Cat, about Tinka the cat, and his friend Yacoub the truck driver. We have been looking at inferring, or making smart guess. We have used what we have seen in the illustrations, and what we have read, to make an inference about what has happened in the story.

Check out some of our inferences below ...

Mani:

I see: Tinka is remembering

I read: "But Tinka knows that Yacoub was quiet because he was remembering."

I infer: Tinka was sad because he missed his Mum

Willow:

I see: Tinka laying on her Mum.

I read: "Tinka also had an old home, full of mewling siblings."

I infer: Tinka was dreaming about his life.

Chloe:

I see: Yacoub and Tinka are remembering their old homes.

I read: Tinka and Yacoub are remembering their memories together.

I infer: They are feeling sad and happy because they miss their homes.

Vallie:

I see: Tinka remember that she had a nice big home.

I read: "Tinka also had an old home, full of mewling siblings"

I infer: Tinka was sad because she wasn't with her siblings. She was very sad.

Maths

In Maths we have been continuing to look at standard and non-standard forms to represent two and three digit numbers. We have also been learning about number lines, and getting ready to use them help us with addition.

Swim Gym

We have had two action packed weeks in Ballarat, doing swimming lessons and gym sessions. It has been busy and exciting, and we have been learning lots of new skills - both in the water and out. All the teachers are really proud of everyone's behaviour and effort, and it has been lovely to see our Foundation and Year One students bring Beaufort Primary School Values out into the community.

Enjoy some snapshots of our fun times!
