Mr Shuttleworth

Foundation

Students in Foundation have been learning how to work together as a team by listening, sharing their ideas, and taking turns. Last week, they created different pictures using coloured blocks, but only one person was allowed to leave the table to get blocks at a time!

Year 1/2

In Year 1/2, we listened to the story of "Who Sank the Boat?". We talked about how our emotions are like the animals who kept getting into the boat until it either sank or overflowed. If we don't do things to process our emotions, like talking about them, exercising or doing breathing exercises, our emotions can keep piling up until they overflow.

What are some helpful ways that you can process your emotions at home?

Year 3/4

In Year 3/4, we listened to the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". Afterwards, teams had to work together to create a chair that would be strong enough to hold Baby Bear, Mumma Bear, and Daddy Bear.

We spoke about different ways to work together as a group and what our preferred ways to work are. Our Northerners can be great to get a task started, but what happens when they act too quickly?

What working style are you? How does that affect how you work as a group?

Year 5/6

In Year 5/6, we continued to look into how we can use our character strengths to live by our values. We discussed different problems students may face online and how they could use strengths like perspective, leadership, curiosity and bravery to come up with helpful solutions.

The Resilience Project is coming to Ballarat!

The Resilience Project is back these term 3 holidays with their much-loved and incredibly fun kids show, 3 Happy Tricks!

Led by Partner and Lead Facilitator at The Resilience Project, Martin Heppell, 3 Happy Tricks is packed with catchy tunes, memorable stories and so much energy. Embedded in all the fun is simple, practical mental health strategies designed to support children (and the adults who care for them) to build positive wellbeing habits.

With 1 in 4 primary students and 1 in 3 secondary students experiencing high levels of anxiety and/or depression, the need for a preventative approach to support young people’s mental wellbeing has never been greater. And that’s where The Resilience Project steps in. Known for their work in schools and workplaces across the country, The Resilience Project is one of Australia’s leading mental health prevention organisations, having reached millions with the evidence-based principles of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness (affectionately known as GEM).

3 Happy Tricks is a great school holiday activity for families across Victoria to learn how to incorporate GEM strategies into their daily routines…and have a bit of fun while doing so!
