Platypus Classroom

Literacy

This past fortnight, our Platypus students have enjoyed reading, writing and performing poetry. They have experimented with language features that appeal to the reader's senses and have performed different poems for their peers and building their public speaking skills. They have been practising giving peer feedback and applying feedback to their performance. All students have been justifiably proud of their work and have eagerly asked to perform their poems at the next two assemblies. Well done to our creative writers!

Maths

In maths, we have been powering through with our 6 times tables. Students are refining strategies and building their fluency. We have seen a wonderful improvement since the beginning of the term. Next fortnight, we will be moving on to our 7 times tables!

The explicit teaching focus over the past fortnight has been building our understanding of our number system by looking at numbers big and small! Stage 2 students have been developing their understanding of tenths and hundredths, and Stage 3 students are ordering numbers into the thousandths. Additionally, we have had a strong focus on problem-solving by identifying key information and choosing the correct operation to solve the problem.
