Principal Message

Friday 22nd August

Dear Mitcham Primary School Community,

It’s been a very exciting fortnight here at Mitcham Primary, and I am delighted to share some wonderful news and highlights with you.

First and foremost, we are thrilled to announce that our much-loved Learning Specialist and Grade 1 teacher, Beau Robertson, has been appointed as Assistant Principal at Donvale Primary School. Beau has been a valued member of our team for the past four years, making a significant impact through his dedication to curriculum development, data analysis, and assessment. His passion and expertise have greatly enriched our school community. While we will miss Beau’s daily presence, we are incredibly proud to see him step into this important leadership role. Beau will begin his new position on Monday, 1st September. We are currently working on our workforce plan to ensure a smooth transition and continued excellence for our students.

On a lighter and equally joyful note, our recent Book Week celebrations were a fantastic success! The excitement was palpable throughout the week, beginning with the amazing CardyToons author/illustrator incursion, which truly inspired our students. Our Book Character Dress-Up Day and Parade brought stories to life with a huge array of costumes and creativity. We also enjoyed a brilliant Book Week-inspired Mitcham Mates Day, fostering friendship and fun through literature. Not to be missed was our wonderfully organised ‘Choose Your Own Library Adventure’, another highlight that engaged students in new and imaginative ways. None of these memorable experiences would have been possible without the incredible enthusiasm and commitment of our talented staff. Their dedication ensures that special moments like these continue to ignite a love of reading and learning in our students.

Adding to the excitement, our recent Fathering Project event to celebrate Science Week was an absolute hit! We were delighted to welcome around 50 dads, positive male role models, and children to join us in learning about and building catapults. It was inspiring to see the creativity and teamwork on display - especially from one of our youngest scientists, Prep student Xeon, who successfully built a catapult that launched a small object almost the entire width of the basketball court! Clearly, we have many budding engineers and scientists in our midst. The Fathering Project continues to have a positive and lasting impact at Mitcham Primary, fostering strong connections between our school, families, and community while providing valuable opportunities for children to engage in hands-on learning alongside important role models.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

Warmly,

Erin
