From the Principal Class

Dear Viewbank Community,
It has been a big few weeks of events and activities.
The College has celebrated Science week, with quizzes and paper aeroplane making amongst other things.
We have also acknowledged “Bullying No Way” week, with messaging across the College about saying no to bullying.
The renowned children’s author, Morris Gleitzman, spoke with some of our students and recounted his past experiences, inspirations and processes in writing.
Our Year 10 students celebrated Semester One success, with an awards assembly for those students who have not only achieved academic success, but who have shown growth in their learning. We also awarded students who have been good citizens - who have the most house points for classroom engagement, participation and being a positive member of our community. Congratulations to all award winners.
Our Production, Mamma Mia, was our most successful yet! We sold out most performances and I was incredibly proud of the whole team - from leads, ensembles, the orchestra, front of house, costume, make-up and tech support. We have such a vibrant music and performing arts program and this was another opportunity for our students to shine!
And shine they did- such amazing talent!!
Special thanks to our staff, Pas, Ben, Keah, Steve, Caitlin, Pat and Emily for their tireless work in creating such a brilliant show. Thanks to our Principals, Emma Ford and Rachael Smith and the whole Friends of Performing Arts (FOPA), for providing front of house goodies and ticket sales.
Whilst this is a shorter term, there are many things to look forward to:
- Outdoor Ed camps
- Mt Buller snow trip (Year 11’s)
- Road Smart program for Year 11’s
- Strings Soiree
- Cabaret night

Laptop Information Evening:
A reminder to students in Year 9 (and next year’s Year 7 cohort) that we have a laptop information evening next Monday, 18th of August at 6pm.
Important information will be shared regarding the purchase of new laptops under the school’s 1:1 laptop program.
It is vital that parents understand that the laptops purchased in Year 7 run out of warranty after three years. This has implications for the level of support you will receive in fixing laptops or accessing insurance if something major goes wrong.
Child Safety
We have extensive policies regarding the safety of children across the public education system and at Viewbank College in particular.
I want to reassure all parents that we have very specific policies and processes in place to ensure our students are safe.
- All policies are updated and can be found on our website and Compass.
- Our staff do regular training online.
- We provide regular updates to staff on our Code of Conduct, on how to spot signs of child grooming or inappropriate conduct.
- All visitors to the College (those providing professional services, trades, guest speakers) have working with children checks and are supervised onsite.
- All staff hired (teachers and support staff) go through a rigorous selections process, including suitability for child connected work checks.
