From the Leadership Team

Dear families,
As we wrap up another fabulous term, it is great to reflect on the efforts and achievements of our students, staff, and families. This term has been filled with vibrant learning experience with lots of laughter and joy all around the school.
Our students have shown amazing dedication and enthusiasm in their learning. Our staff's commitment to nurturing and inspiring our young learners has been nothing short of exceptional, alongside the support and involvement of our families which have been instrumental in creating a thriving and positive school environment.
As we head into the holidays, we wish you a safe and relaxing break with your families. We look forward to seeing you next term. Please note that the first day of Term 2 is a Preschool Pupil Free Day. Reception - Year 6 students attend on the first day
Please enjoy reading through our final newsletter of this term.
Harmony Day
We celebrated Harmony Day by wearing our team colours or orange and enjoyed a community picnic lunch on the oval celebrating each other's company.
Year 6 Senior Tops
Our Year 6 Senior polos and hoodies arrived earlier this term. Our students are proudly wearing their tops to school, and they look super cool in them!
School Uniform expectations
The cooler weather is fast approaching and it's time to check out whether your children have outgrown last years' jumpers and trackpants.
You can purchase uniform items via our Qkr! app. Don't forget we have warm school beanies that our students can wear during Term 2 to keep their ears and head toasty and warm.
Please look over our Uniform Policy, as ratified by our Governing Council in 2024 to ensure your child is wearing our correct uniform.
Art Exhibition at Tea Tree Gully Library
Some of our student's amazing 2024 artwork is on display in the foyer at the Tea Tree Gully Library for the next month. Thank you to Sheila Flavel for organising to showcase our artwork for the public and share the great things that happen at Modbury School P-6.
Please make sure you find time to visit the library during the holidays and check out our exhibtion.
R-5 Swimming
Last week our Reception - Year 5 students enjoyed swimming lessons at Waterworld. How great was the weather!
Our students demonstrated exceptional responsibility as they walked to the venue, eagerly participating in their lessons. These sessions are not only about learning to swim but also about understanding the importance of water safety. Students engaged actively, gaining valuable skills to keep themselves safe in and around water. This initiative is vital to our curriculum, ensuring our children are well-prepared and confident in aquatic environments. Well done to all our students for their enthusiasm and commitment!
This week our Year 6 students attend their Aquatics Day and we know they will also gain valuable water safety skills and enjoy their day of learning.
Year 6 Aquatics Day
The Year 6 students recently participated in their Aquatics Day at West Lakes Aquatic centre. This is designed to enhance water safety and boost students' confidence in aquatic environments. This program offers our students the opportunity to learn essential water safety skills, including swimming techniques, rescue strategies, and understanding water conditions.
Participating in this program not only equips students with life-saving skills but also fosters a sense of self-assurance and teamwork. By engaging in various water-based activities, students develop their physical abilities and gain a deeper appreciation for water safety.
These experiences are crucial for our students' overall development and well-being. Our students had the most amazing day learning new skills.
World Autism Day
On Wednesday 2nd of April, we celebrated World Autism Day and classes engaged in looking at stories to raise awareness. Sheila Flavel is our Autism Inclusion Teacher.
There are some great stories to raise awareness available for families to access on our subscription to Storybox Library. Please see Class Dojo School Story for the login details.
Slime Colour Run
Modbury School P-6 wishes to express our gratitude for your incredible support and enthusiasm during our recent major fundraising event, the Slime Colour Run. Your participation and generosity will make a significant impact on our school. The Slime Run will occur on Friday week 11, the last day of term!
Thanks to your efforts, we are thrilled that we will be able to upgrade our school gym's AV equipment, which should be a valuable addition to school events. This enhancement will greatly enrich the learning and recreational experiences of our students, ensuring they have access to the best resources we can offer.
The success of this event demonstrates the strength and unity of our community. Whether you ran, volunteered, donated, or cheered from the sidelines, your contribution is invaluable. It is fantastic to see how our community comes together to support our student's growth and development.
One of the special things about our school is our community. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and caring community where we all work together in making a difference in the lives of our students.
Decodable Readers in the Early Years
At Modbury School P-6, we are committed to providing our students with a strong foundation in literacy. Our early years' reading program incorporates decodable readers, which align with the Department for Education's Phonics Scope and Sequence. These readers are designed to support our students as they develop essential phonics skills, enabling them to decode words independently and build confidence in their reading abilities.
The support of a Literacy Coach from the Literacy Guarantee Unit further strengthens our approach. This collaboration ensures that our teaching strategies are effective and tailored to meet the needs of each student. By focusing on phonics and providing structured reading opportunities, we aim to foster a love for reading and set our students on a path to literacy success.
After School Safety
We would like to remind everyone about the importance of school safety at the end of the day. A teacher is on duty from 3:05 to 3:25 pm to supervise students who have not yet been picked up. This teacher is usually located in the Reflection Garden, ensuring the safety and well-being of these students.
We kindly ask that all students walking home do so promptly, joining the majority of students and adults leaving the school. This helps ensure their safety. We are concerned about students who remain on school grounds until after the final bell at 3:25 pm before starting their journey home.
Additionally, we welcome parents who wish to remain on site after school to enjoy our school grounds and playgrounds with their children. We kindly remind parents to actively supervise their children during this time to ensure everyone's safety.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.
PBL Whole School Celebration - Term 2 Week 1
We have been working hard on showing our School Values and demonstrating PBL in all that we do.
Our next Whole School PBL Celebration will be Friday Week 1 of Term 2 - PJ Day.

Early Dismissal and Casual Day
The end of term is quickly approaching! Please note that school will finish at 2:05 pm on the final day of term. It’s also a casual day, so feel free to wear something comfortable, and don’t forget to make your donation on Qkr! as all money raised goes into our garden. Please also pack a white shirt for your child to change into for the Slime Run on the day. You may choose to pack some spare clothes for students to change into after being slimed!
Warm regards,
Sara, Jade and Sheila.
