Reading: Aim to read 15 minutes at home per night. Let’s finish the premiers reading challenge as a class again this year!
High Frequency Words: We will begin using these at school, once any unknown words are determined then they will be sent home for practicing.
Learning this week:
NAPLAN begins for our Year 3 students this week. We wish them all the best! Any missed tests will be caught up in Week 7. times to be confirmed this week.
Wednesday 12th March – Writing – 9:10am

Friday 14th March – Conventions of Language - 11am
Monday 17th March – Mathematics – 11am
Literacy: Word Study: This week the Year 2s will revisit some of the words they have spelt across all the sounds we have covered so far this year. Below is a suggested word list we will use.

Writer’s Workshop: we will continue using writing prompts in preparation for NAPLAN for our year three students. It will be great practice using prompts as a starting point for writing.
Readers Workshop: we will continue our unit focusing on reading like writers. We will aim to identify strategies and techniques we can use in our writing, like big and bold and different grammatical features.
Mathematics: We will finish exploring addition strategies this week, reviewing key components of place value and begin using subtraction strategies to solve simple problems.
Unit of Inquiry: This semester (Term 1 & Term 2) we will have an ongoing unit of inquiry: Who We Are with a theme of resilience. This will continue across both terms with focus lessons occurring weekly.
In our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry we will continue learning some basic sign language and exploring symbols in health.
Reminders:
Year 2/3TR Celebration of Learning – Save the date – our Celebration of Learning (How We Express Ourselves) will be this term. Tuesday (8th April). More details and a formal invitation to come.
Adelaide Cup Public Holiday – please note there is no school this Monday (10th March) for the Public Holiday.
Premiers Reading Challenge: This year in 2/3TR students will have their own individual records to track the books they read. Students are required to read eight books from the book list and four free choice books. Year 3s will be borrowing yellow dot books from the Library and the Year 2s blue dots. As you read books at home, please feel free to email them to me so I can help your child to add them to their list or alternatively feel free to visit the classroom before or after school to add them to the list with your child. The recording sheets will be kept at school. We will also aim to read some books as a class to help to complete our records.
Year 3/4 Camp – Wirraway
Year 3/4 camp is fast approaching (Term 2, Week 2, May 7th – May 9th). We are looking for expressions of interest for parent volunteers. Please email these through to your child’s classroom teacher by no later than Friday 21st March (Week 7). Please also ensure all volunteer requirements are up to date. These can be found here:
Parent Volunteers will be chosen during Week 8 before the end of the term.
