Our Grade 3 - 6 Athletics Day is TOMORROW! For our SC2 students (including all Scotsburn Grade 3s), we will be starting and finishing the day at the Buninyong Campus. Students will catch a bus to and from the Llanberris athletics track, where they will participate in a range of track and field events, scoring points for their house colour.

Students are encouraged to come to school in their house colours, ready for a big day of fun and activities. Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen and a drink bottle!

Arrangements for SC1 Tomorrow (Wednesday)

With SC2 (including our Grade 3 students) attending athletics tomorrow, the remainder of our SC1 students will continue with their regular daily routine at Scotsburn with Mrs Connor. This will include Art and Japanese with Mrs Morgan. It sure will be quiet at the campus for the day!

Fete Help!

The Fete is not far away, with the big day being Friday 21st March. We have now confirmed our Scotsburn stalls, with SC1 Running a BBQ and SC2 running the Pulled Pork Rolls stand. These stalls should run very smoothly as we were able to run both these at the last fete in 2023. All ordering and preparation should be taken care of; however we will definitely be requiring lots of assistance on the night.

Please see below a volunteer roster for the night. We would love to have all spots filled. It is also great to involve the students at the stalls, particularly the older students.

As part of our set up for the two stalls, we are also on the hunt for a couple of slow cookers, a couple of eskys and a gazebo. If you can help with any of these items, please let one of the Scotsburn staff know.

Next week, our Year 3 and 5 students have their NAPLAN assessments. See the table below for dates and times.

TEST

Date/Time

NAPLAN WritingWednesday March 12th 9:30am
NAPLAN ReadingThursday March 13th 9:30am
NAPLAN Conventions of LanguageFriday March 14th 9:30am
NAPLAN NumeracyMonday March 17th 9:30am

All students will require headphones that are compatible with an iPad, as all NAPLAN tests are completed online apart from Grade 3 Writing.  Please ensure that you have this organised this week. Students at Scotsburn will be able to use school devices, which will set up each day, ready to go.

This Thursday, we will have a practice Naplan session with our Grade 3s and 5s at Scotsburn. This will give students the opportunity to practice what the assessments will be like, including navigating the online platform as well as understanding the structure of the assessment questions. This will also give us a good chance to troubleshoot and answer any questions.

From 9:30am - 11am on NAPLAN mornings, our Grade 4s and 6s will be able to complete their regular program, including specialist sessions. Should we require a catch up session for any absent students, this will occur on Tuesday 18th March.

If you have a child in Grade 3 or 5, it might be a good idea this week to have a chat with them and remind them that these assessments are not to be something that causes any distress. The assessments are there as an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge, and their best effort is all that is asked of them.

Any questions leading up to NAPLAN, please come and see Jarrod this week.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Teddy Bears picnic is finally here! This Friday the preps from Buninyong will join us at Scotsburn for the annual Teddy Bears Picnic. On this day the children will be involved in a range of different activities. Children will need to bring a teddy bear with their name on it. It will be a fun day!

A reminder that Wednesday will be a regular day at the Scotsburn campus. It will be a little quieter than usual, with the Grade 3-6 students off to the Interhouse athletics day at Llanberris athletics track.

Have a great week,

Chelsea and Beth

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Over the past week in Writing in SC2, we have begun to remind ourselves of the structure of persuasive writing pieces, focussing particularly on an engaging and persuasive introduction. As a class, we have modelled and co-created engaging hooks, supporting sentences as well as strong topic sentences. We will continue to develop this writing across this week, having a well rounded complete persuasive piece by the end of the week.

A reminder that SC2 starts and finishes tomorrow at Buninyong for the athletics day. Don’t forget to come in your house colours!

Today SC2 (along with SC1) attended the Questacon Science excursion. What a fun way to explore the wonders of science! Thanks Ms Middy for organising the incursion!

What a busy week we have!

Specialist Learning Snapshot - Physical Education

Over the first half of Term 1, SC1 has been learning about the skill of dodge. Students have been playing a range of games that utilise the skill of dodge including, secret agent tag and cat and mouse.

So far this term, SC2 has been learning about health and fitness. In this unit students have been playing a range of games to determine what happens to our heartbeat. For the remainder of the term students will be exploring the components of fitness.

Please don’t forget to wear runners and bring a drink bottle and hat on Thursday’s for PE!

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
