Spiritual Connections

Diocesan Theme 2026 – Seek Peace and Pursue It.
Wellsprings Reflection:
A reading from the Gospel of Matthew (21:1-11)
When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives,
Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately
you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, just say this, The Lord needs them. And he will send them immediately.”
This took place to fulfil what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,“Tell the daughter of Zion,Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?”
The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
Reflection:
This was a symbolic way of treating him like a king, hoping he might overthrow the Roman government. But Jesus was no ordinary king. Instead of riding on a chariot and horseback, Jesus rode on a donkey to fulfil the prophets.
“Say to the daughter of Zion, See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9)
Jesus did not come to rescue his followers from the Romans but to conquer death and rescue them spiritually, offering eternal life.
What time in your life did you feel both happiness and heartbreak?
How did Jesus help you through it?
Is there someone you want to bring to prayer this coming Holy Week who is experiencing happiness mixed with heartbreak?

Project Compassion in 2026
The theme for Project Compassion this year is ‘Unite Against Poverty.’
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising appeal - one of the largest in the country. For over 60 years, it has brought together schools, parishes, communities and individuals to reflect, pray and take action, helping to create a more just world for all.
Coins for Caritas:
The Grade Six Social Justice Team have organised a fundraiser to raise money for Caritas and Project Compassion.
Have you got any 5 or 10 cent coins lying around in dishes, containers, car consoles, etc, that don’t get used for anything? You’d be amazed how many loose coins we have scattered around our houses.
The children have been set the challenge to ask mum and dad if they can collect any loose
coins and donate them to Project Compassion. On the last day of term, we are going to have a fun competition to see which class can create the longest line using 5 or 10 cent coins. (if families wish to donate other coins they are more than welcome to.)
If you would like to donate any loose coins to our Project Compassion Fundraiser, it would be greatly appreciated. Every coin donated will go a long way to supporting communities in need, both in Australia and overseas.
Thank you for your support.
Every little bit helps!!
