Thrive & Flourish

Wellbeing Newsletter:
Welcome to the final week of Term 1. It has been a very busy term for staff, students and families. Hopefully the up-coming holidays are an opportunity to enjoy less structured routines and time to spend some together as a family.
For those currently unwell, we hope for a speedy recovery for you.
For those who’ve welcomed a new addition to the family, we extend our warmest congratulations on this happy occasion.
For those families who’ve experienced a recent bereavement, please know you are in the prayers and thoughts of all in our community.
Student Attendance:
At Sacred Heart, most students come to school regularly and as a result are learning new skills socially, academically and emotionally. This is an expectation and a right that we would like to see enacted for every student.
We know that coming to school on time every day is a necessary condition for learning to occur. Students who attend school every day benefit from all of the support and teacher assistance that is available, and are much more likely to go ahead in their learning.
Being ready to begin the day's learning with the rest of the class is also very important and we ask for your support in ensuring that students are in their classes by the beginning of day bell. Being prepared for the day, and starting with peers, encourages a great day of learning and helps with organisational details of the day.
Parents/guardians are responsible for making sure that all children attend school every day unless they are too unwell, in which case the school must be advised.
Harmony Day.
Harmony Day – 21st March, 2024.
Last week was known as Harmony Week in Australia. Specifically, Saturday 21st March was Harmony Day.
Harmony Day is a celebration of our Cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.
Held every year in March, Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live.
Orange has been the Harmony Week colour since the first event was held in 1999.
Harmony Day.
As a school, we celebrate Harmony Day in a very special way; -
*by making it the focus of classroom prayer to start the day.
*by celebrating the cultural heritage of our families with a special ‘parade of nations’.
*by completing classroom activities linked to Harmony Day.
*by participating in fun activities led by our Grade 5 and 6 student leaders.
*by having special lunch orders with food from other countries.
*by sharing ideas about why it is important to be respectful of all cultures that make Australia a great country in which to live.
Thankyou to all our parents and families in helping to make this day a special celebration.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.
We welcome any emails or calls if families wish to seek support and can be contacted via email at any time or a phone call to school.
