Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Families,

Last week, during one of my daily readings, I found myself reflecting on the many travels I’ve been blessed to experience over the years. From overseas adventures to family road trips, even school excursions - each one holds such special memories.

I couldn’t help but think back to my very first trip overseas. I remember having a folded piece of paper tucked carefully into my coat pocket, constantly pulling it out to check (and double-check!) that I was heading in the right direction. I was so excited to carry a laminated map of New York City, along with the full A–Z map book of London in my backpack. How different it is now - these days, we simply open a map on our phones, and it guides us turn by turn through freeways and city streets across Australia.

I’m sure many of you can relate - if you’ve ever travelled somewhere unfamiliar, you’ll know just how important a map is. It gives you direction, helps you navigate unknown places, and reassures you that you’re on the right path.

My reading from Proverbs had me reflect on God’s Word being the map for our lives. When we step into unknown seasons, the Bible offers us wisdom and guidance we can trust. It reminds us that God, our Creator, knows exactly how life works best and where our paths should lead.

Proverbs 3:5–6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

What a comfort it is to know that when we place our trust in Him and submit our ways, He promises to guide us.

At Pilgrim, one of the rhythms we hold onto as staff is beginning our day together in prayer - sometimes in classrooms, sometimes across the Campus, and often for one another. In our classrooms, starting the day with a devotion, reading from the Bible, and praying together helps set the tone. It often redirects our hearts, our plans, and even the course of our day.

I want to gently encourage you to do the same - to pause, even in the busyness of life, and spend time in God’s Word. Let it guide you, just like a map, as you navigate each day.

Blessings,
