Harmony Day

Harmony Day recognises and celebrates Australia's cultural diversity. On the same day we unveiled the Peace pole.

It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week.

It signifies social communication, meaningful conversations and encouragement of mutual respect.

At Glenroy College we recognise Harmony day and the ceremony to recognise the planting of the Peace pole!

Peace Pole; May Peace Prevail on Earth

  • A Peace Pole is a monument that displays this peace message
  • There are over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world
  • Peace Poles are helpful to remind us how we can all make a positive difference and are intended to inspire unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds.

We recognise that we all have a part to play and Peace is achieved when we live in harmony with each other and create a community where we all belong.

The Peace Pole program, founded in 1955 by Masahisa Goi after World War II, promotes global peace through simple monuments bearing the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

The Peace Pole symbolises a shared commitment to peace. In Australia, Rotary clubs have expanded the initiative, including a 2021 project delivering 100 poles to schools for Rotary’s centenary.

Pascoe Vale Rotary, involved since 1995, now aims to install 50 poles for its 50th anniversary. With more than 600 poles nationwide, the program highlights the role individuals and communities play in fostering peace locally and globally.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Pascoe Vale Rotary Club and Nelson Alexander for their generous sponsorship of this important initiative, particularly in light of current global events.

We also acknowledge and thank our School Council President Deb Clarke, staff, and students for their commitment and contributions towards making this event possible.

We are called to act from a place of Respect, Kindness, Harmony and Peace.

We remember that we all belong and together we build strength in our community.

May Peace Prevail at Glenroy College and on earth.

THANKYOU TO THE GLENROY STUDENTS WHO HAVE PAINTED A ROCK TO BE PLACED AROUND THE PEACE POLE

The Chinese philosopher Laozi wrote this message for Peace over 2500 years ago.

Laozi teaches that we should live a simple life that is filled with goodness and integrity. Even though he wrote this message thousands of years ago it is one that is very important and still valid for all of us today.

“If there is to be peace in the world, There must be peace in the nations.

May Peace Prevail on Earth”

If there is to be peace in the nations, There must be peace in the cities.

May Peace Prevail on Earth”

If there is to be peace in the cities, There must be peace between neighbours.

May Peace Prevail on Earth”

If there is to be peace between neighbours, There must be peace in the home.

May Peace Prevail on Earth”

If there is to be peace in the home, There must be peace in the heart.”

May Peace Prevail on Earth”

Together we express our commitment to spreading the message of Peace in our home, school, community, city, nation and the world.
