Message from the Principal

Iftar Dinner

Our recent Iftar dinner was a wonderful event that brought our school community together to share and celebrate. It was a special evening of connection, reflection and learning, and it was great to see so many students, families and staff involved.

A big thank you to Lidia Tizian, Sajida Tannoura and Faddella Khoder for all their hard work in organising the event. Their effort and care made the evening run so smoothly. Thank you also to year 12 students, Yusuf and Mohammed for being our MCs and for leading the prayer so respectfully. We would also like to thank everyone else who contributed, whether by helping organise, bringing food, or simply being part of the evening.

While Iftar is part of the Islamic tradition and marks the breaking of the fast during Ramadan, at Glenroy College it is very much a whole-community event. It is an opportunity for all families — regardless of faith or background — to come together, share a meal, and celebrate the strength and diversity of our community.

As we continue to foster connection and understanding, we look forward to many more moments like this at Glenroy in the future.

Stand Up @Glenroy

Earlier this year, teachers and student leaders came together to talk about feedback from last year’s student survey. One of the main messages was about Bullying, Racism and Discrimination, and making it easier for students to get help.

From this, Stand Up @ Glenroy was created.

Our first step is the Stand Up @ Glenroy reporting survey. If students see bullying, or if it’s happening to them, this is a simple and private way to let us know. The link is in Compass favourites (go to “More” in the bottom right, then “School Favourites”), and QR codes will also be available in sub-schools soon.

In Term 2, we will also run Stand Up @ Glenroy sessions. These will focus on Bullying, Racism and Discrimination, how to get help, and making sure we listen to our students on how to respond in a fair and consistent way.

We want everyone at Glenroy to feel safe and supported. If something doesn’t feel right, please speak up—through the survey or by talking to a staff member you trust. Your voice matters, and we will take every report seriously.

Our Push for Safer Roads

As you will remember, this term we have had  one of our students was hit by a car at pick up time, and many other very close calls on Cardinal Rd. It is clear that too many people are driving down Cardinal and Glenroy roads at high speed, parking in ways which make the area dangerous to navigate, parking in local driveways and doing unsafe U turns in the middle of the road.

We need your help:

  • Reinforcing with your children the importance of crossing safely at the lights
  • Considering alternative pick up locations to reduce traffic and risk on Cardinal Rd
  • Being sure to model safe behaviours while driving, and in particular during pick up and drop off times
  • Taking 1 minute to put in a submission at this link to advocate for a permanent speed camera in this area. https://www.vic.gov.au/suggest-camera-location
  • Contact local or state decision makers in support of this. Key contact details are below (and please cc me on your message if you can - andrew.arney@education.vic.gov.au)
