SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

 PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

It was wonderful to welcome our local Grade 5 and Grade 6 students and parents to our Information Night on Tuesday 30th Apri. This was a great opportunity for our whole community to celebrate the learning and other activities that take place at our school every day. Our school was looking amazing and there were smiles all round from staff, parents and students. Mr Cronin and Mr Churchill will be visiting these students at their primary schools over the coming weeks to speak further about transition to secondary college, then in the last week of Term Three all local Grade 6 students will attend KSC for three days as part of our unique extended transition program. We look forward to seeing all these students again over the coming months.

Through this week I recorded a short video that was posted on our social media platforms on how Respect is shown at KSC. At KSC we are proud to have strong values around respect, inclusivity and diversity, and celebrate, promote and recognise these in a range of ways every day. Respect is taught through our ACE classes both as part of our GPA Matrix Behaviours around Respect in the classroom, as well as the Respectful Relationship curriculum. Last year our staff facilitated a presentation to the local community on this. We have a Student Diversity Group who last year led the process to develop the “All Are Welcome” stickers which are proudly displayed on shop fronts in Korumburra. We also recognise the causes behind Wear it Purple, Orange the World, 16 Days’ of Activism and IDAHOBIT days each year. We are proud of our increasingly diverse community, and embracing this diversity, and showing respect for all is going to continue to make us a stronger, wiser and more creative school.

As part of our rigorous focus on making KSC a respectful and safe space for all, at our School Council meeting this week we continued our work on reviewing and refining our Bullying Prevention Policy. This can be found on our website, and parents are welcome and encouraged to provide any feedback on this to be considered as part of our review of this. Feedback can be provided directly to the school who will then pass it on to our School Councillors.

Thank you to all parents and community members for your ongoing support of our school. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
