Junior School Update
JDC Shelford Garden Club
On the 26th of April, the JDC met with Mrs Goldman to have their first session of the Shelford Garden Club (SGC). Students were excited to see what was growing in the Shelford and Oaktree gardens. The girls got straight to work on a garden scavenger hunt, finding leaves, flowers, ants, and stones. They showed respect for the plants by touching them carefully and only picking what they needed.
The Shelford Garden Club is a weekly session to further students’ understanding of sustainability and Earth’s natural resources. As we finished up our session, students demonstrated the school value of integrity by picking up litter they found around the garden. Great work, sustainability warriors!

da Vinci Decathlon
Our Shelford Year 5 & 6 da Vinci Decathlon representatives triumphed by winning first place in Engineering at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School. It was a sensational day of learning and networking with a range of other schools.
Emma Z gives us her reflection on the event below:
'On the 30th of April, the DaVinci Decathlon was held at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School. Eight people in Years 5 and 6 were selected to participate from Shelford. The decathlon involves answering questions from ten subjects including Maths, English, Cartography and Creative Producers. There were tables dedicated to each school and we worked in groups of two, sometimes three. Whenever someone needed help, a team mate from another subject would come and assist. Sometimes we had to get the whole group to help in one subject! It was not all paperwork - we even had to improvise and perform in front of teachers. The theme for the day was Utopia. In the end it was very fun and we got to make a lot of new friends! Shelford won the engineering category and it was a very good experience! All of us loved it.'

Wellbeing
The Big Life Journal is always a wonderful source of wisdom and advice. This week, the topic was about how baffling it can be for parents when their children display behaviours of anger, frustration or sadness that seem to come from nowhere. Alexandra from The Big Life Journal explains this as having a depleted ‘emotional cup’ and suggests some things that can help nurture a child’s sense of wellbeing and foster mood regulation.
