INTERNATIONAL Student News

It has been a busy few weeks for Frankston High School’s International Student Program. We are so proud of the incredible growth these students are making, not only academically but also in their social and emotional development. We currently have approximately 40 International students enrolled at Frankston High School, hailing from a range of different countries including China, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Japan. This includes our international students currently enrolled in our 6-month intensive English Language Centre. Some recent highlights include:

  • Frankston High School being chosen by the Department of Education to be featured in the Victorian Government’s ‘Picture Yourself’ photoshoot. This involved our program and several of our International and local students being photographed for a day to be featured in an international brochure, for prospective international students and their families.
  • Year 11 students' excursion to the State Library of Victoria for a Uni Open Day expo, specially designed for Year 11 and 12 International students from all high schools in Victoria studying VCE, IB and VCAL. It provided a unique opportunity for our international students to obtain first-hand and customized information from all the major universities and selected TAFE and private institutions.
  • Students from our English Language Centre travelling to the Melbourne Grand Prix and the George Pentland Gardens for excursions which provided some fantastic education and cultural immersion opportunities.
  • The introduction of the International Student Basketball Club which runs on a Thursday afternoon in the stadium.
  • Our twice-weekly lunchtime club which provides a safe and supportive environment for our International students to check in and focus on their mental and social well-being, while also improving critical and creative thinking skills through different activities and discussion prompts.

We look forward to welcoming and supporting 12 new International students next term as they enter our English Language Centre. We are confident this new intake, along with our current students will continue to make the most of the opportunities Frankston High School affords them. We know they also help to influence the development of a global perspective for our local students, having a positive impact on our community.

Thank you to all staff who support our International students but particularly the International Student Team for all their efforts, care, kindness, and patience in supporting our students.
