Jericho House description
An ancient city near the Dead Sea. When the ancient Israelites entered the Promised Land, the mighty walls of this city blocked their way. This was not an easy barrier to cross, so they called to the Lord and the walls came tumbling down. This city is a symbol of what can be achieved by faith, courage and determination.
House Prayer
Loving God,
There are times when we find ourselves facing enormous walls that are impossible to break down with human strength.
Like Joshua, give us the courage and determination through faith to perform great and mighty things for those around us and those less fortunate than ourselves.
Mary Mother of God… Pray for Us.
Our Lady of Sion… Pray for Us.
Saint Marcellin Champagnat… Pray for Us.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop… Pray for Us.
And must we always remember… to prayer for one another.
Amen.
2024 Goals
Our emphasis is on involvement, taking initiative, and trying things out. The last several years have seen the Jericho students cultivate a positive culture, which is demonstrated by the students in Jericho House and their eagerness to participate and try new things. It takes courage, resilience and determination for each student to stive to do their best, whether in the classroom, the Swimming or Athletics Carnivals, the Performing Arts, Interschool Sports, or being the greatest student they can be.
We have had a great start to the year, finishing 4th in the Swimming Carnival. Well done to all students and staff who supported our House. A big congratulations goes to our Age Level Champions – Joel Grace (Under 13 boys) and Ashleigh Cuncio (Under 21 girls), what an outstanding achievement.

Champagnat Prayer
Loving God,
You gave us Marcellin Champagnat as a fine example
of how ordinary people can do extraordinary things
when they make use of the gifts they have been given.
In the same way, you expect us to use the gifts
that you have given us so that we can make
you present to the world.
Help us to invite you into our lives
and to allow you to work through us
to touch the lives of the people we meet and serve.
Mary Mother of God… Pray for Us.
Our Lady of Sion… Pray for Us.
Saint Marcellin Champagnat… Pray for Us.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop… Pray for Us.
And must we always remember… to prayer for one another.
Amen.
Champagnat Story
Saint Marcellin Champagnat was born in Franc in 1789, at the beginning of the French Revolution. After growing up in a farming community, and being educated at home, Marcellin was ordained to the priesthood in 1816. He founded a teaching order of Brothers, later known as the Marist Brothers, to enable young people to access an education and learn about God.
Marcellin Champagnat's ideal of loving all young people equally was central to the way he operated and influenced him in looking after those less fortunate. Yet, it took boldness from those students to accept that love and to make the most of the opportunity presented to them. Champagnat House aims to live in a way which supports others with love, and brings hope to the disadvantaged. To support others will require our students to be bold, to model our lives on Marcellin’s and to love people equally.
"In the face of love, everyone is equal."
2024 Goals
Our goal in Champagnat House is for all members to Embrace Excellence, Foster Fellowship and Cultivate Character. We will achieve this by:
- Striving for excellence in academics, extracurricular activities, and personal growth.
- Fostering fellowship by building strong relationships within our community, supporting one another, and embracing diversity.
- Cultivating character through acts of kindness, integrity, and responsibility, both in and out of the classroom.
We believe that by embodying these principles, we will create a vibrant and supportive environment where every member can thrive.
These goals align perfectly with our school wide expectations of:
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Safe
We hope to celebrate students who are achieving any one of our House Goals through recognition during our House Assemblies.
Champagnat Term 1
Although our performance in the Swimming Carnival was not ideal, we want to express our deepest appreciation to all the students who participated with enthusiasm and determination. Your willingness to compete and represent our House embodies the true spirit of Champagnat. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff who supported us throughout the day, offering encouragement and guidance.
In the midst of our sporting endeavours, we recently celebrated our Champagnat Feast Day with a beautiful liturgy and a joyous feast, reflecting the values of community and faith that define us. It is with immense pride that we acknowledge the numerous student leaders within our House this year, marking the largest representation of leadership across the College. Your dedication and commitment to serving others inspire us all.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate the College Athletics Carnival, where we aim to surpass our previous achievements. With our eyes set on a placement higher than 5th, we are confident in our collective abilities. Together, as a unified team, we can reach new heights and showcase the true potential of Champagnat House. Let's continue to strive for excellence, knowing that with everyone's effort, we can achieve remarkable success.
