Mamma Mia

The return of Term 2 also means the return of rehearsals for Wantirna College's 2024 Production, Mamma Mia

Last weekend, rehearsals went on the road as we journeyed to our annual Production Camp at Candlebark Farm in Healesville. This picturesque location was the backdrop for a weekend filled with hard work, high energy and talent.

From the moment we arrived, the cast was ready to work. We tucked into some dinner and headed straight into our first rehearsal of the weekend; a full run of the first act. We did so in classic Production fashion - in Beach Party costumes.

Not one single member of camp, staff, student or volunteer, could have predicted the incredible level of hard work that was displayed during the Saturday sessions. Working from 9:30am until 5:30pm, the fabulous cast demonstrated the reason we put on the best shows in the area. The work ethic, consideration of others and willingness to take on feedback was an incredible sight to see.

The cast was rewarded with our traditional trivia night to cap off the evening, featuring some truly incredible toilet paper wedding dresses and Beryl Birrell imitations.

The camp could not have ended on a higher note, with a final run through of the first act, encompassing all the hard work the students have done. WOW, is an understatement.

As tired cast members piled into cars, we were all able to reflect on the massive feat that was undertaken over the weekend. Proud, doesn't begin to explain it.

A word from our Production Captains:

My production camp experience was a really enjoyable! it was great to be able to see the show come together, and to see everyone's hard work really pay off. You can really tell how much is put into this show, and I know that Mamma Mia is going to be a good one! As much fun as rehearsals were, the themed trivia night was a great night as it was awesome to challenge against our friends and see the cast and crews costumes all together! The camp was a great way to make new friends and get to know everyone in the cast. ~ Tiarna

It was such a good time. I formed new connections with people and teachers, as well as having so much time to rehearse and perfect the first act of our show. It's going to be so amazing when it's finished, I really wish we could go on another camp. ~Kai

Production camp has been a highlight of the year so far. We were able to collaborate with different year levels during rehearsals and start to become one big production family. We worked really hard on Act 1 with some fun activities such as a Trivia Night in between. Can’t wait to see it come together, bring on the shows in August! ~ Harrison Bedford

This is not a show to miss.
