What a week in Prep!
We are very lucky to have such fun events planned at our school. This week we just happened to be lucky enough for many of them to fall together, all at the same time.
We began our week in our pyjamas to celebrate our new word of the week ‘BED’. All of the Prep students looked very comfortable in their warm PJs and we enjoyed sharing our favourite stories about our bedtime routines.
The Prep students also began their STOMP dance program on Monday. It was quite funny learning a dance routine whilst wearing pyjamas, but everyone laughed and gave it their best go. STOMP covers aspects of both the P.E and Arts curriculum and is a fantastic way for students to build their confidence and enhance their gross motor skills. Our instructor Mykaela is a ray of sunshine and it was very evident that the children gravitated to her very quickly. We will have STOMP each Monday for the next 5 weeks, learning a new routine each week. At the conclusion of the program, the students will be able to showcase one of the routines for the school community. More information about this will be shared at a later date.
Our Prep students also participated in the whole school house cross-country on Tuesday. Every single student participated with enthusiasm and gave their best effort. We were very proud of all of our Preppies, but would like to give a special shout out to Theodore Fiske and Elizabeth Ennis, both of Prep BM for being the winners of the boys and girls events on the day.
Keep an eye out in the next newsletter for a full wrap up of our zoo excursion.

Grade 1 & 2
This week has been a blast and full of wonderful activities. We started our STOMP program on Monday, and we enjoyed putting our dancing shoes on. We cannot wait for our next STOMP lesson.
On Tuesday the whole school took part in cross country. Our Grade 1 and 2 students made an extraordinary effort in their race. It was great to see everyone supporting each other!
In Reading, we continued to work on identifying non-fiction features with a focus on photographs and captions. In Grade 2, they really enjoyed reading outside in the sun on those warmer days!
Cross country was a lot of fun that we decided to write about it in news report for our writing sessions. We cannot wait for you to see some of our catchy headlines.
Vertices, edges, and faces, oh my! We had a week full of identifying features of three-dimensional shapes. We discovered shapes are all around us, in the classroom, out in the yard and in our community!
We hope you all day a fabulous weekend.

Grade 3 & 4
The 3/4 students have had a fantastic start to Term 2! Beginning with three-way conferences, we wanted to share how proud we are of our students and the way they confidently shared thoughts about their learning, even when they were nervous. They all did a wonderful job!
In Reading and Writing, we have been looking at the features of informative texts and how these differ based on physical or digital resources. Students also started researching a topic of choice and recorded key information before beginning to write an information report on the topic, making sure to include a 'sizzling start' and to 'ban the boring'.
We have been looking at angles and symmetry in Maths recently. Students have looked for these in the environment around them and demonstrated their understanding in a variety of ways, including by completing a learning task finding angles in their name and designing their own symmetrical flag.
In Science we have looked at how molecules move and behave differently depending on how warm they are and we used water and food dye to observe this. Inquiry lessons have focused on sustainability and what this means in relation to looking after our planet.
This week students also participated in Cross Country and all put in an amazing effort. Congratulations to those who made it through to district but also to the students who tried their best and worked towards their own personal goals.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Grade 5 & 6
It has been an action packed start to Term 2 with lots of learning and fun!
In Reading, we have been developing our skills at synthesising. It has been lovely to see the students reflecting on new information gained when reading a text. Please encourage your child to read a home each night and sign in their diaries as part of their homework requirements.
In Writing, the students have been ‘bumping up’ their writing by exploring Tier 1,2 & 3 vocabulary. See if you can spot any in their writing below!
In Maths, students have had lots of hands on opportunities to explore perimeter, area, volume and capacity. The students were set a challenge of how many different ways they could create a rectangular prism using 32 cubes. Students worked collaboratively, shared ideas and came up with some very interesting ways of solving this challenge.
For our Friendology lessons, we have been learning about the importance of squishing ANTS…Automatic, Negative Thoughts! It is important that we are kind to ourselves and give ourselves the positive thinking we deserve. We have also been learning about the four friendship facts:
- No friendship (or relationship) is perfect.
- Every friendship is different
- Trust & Respect are the 2 most important qualities of a friendship.
- Friendships change… and that’s okay.
Some of the students from 56A have shared some of the highlights from this term.
Mooroolbark College Visit
The year 6s waited in anticipation while waiting for the eruption to happen, the chemicals fumed into a toxic gas that fizzed and bubbled. The year 6s went to Mooroolbark College to have a feel for year 7. We did various activities such as Drama, P.E and Science. We also experienced an awesome tour by year 11 students. And the best part of the day was the hotdogs for lunch!

Buddies
We heard the creaky door open as our little buddies walked in giggling in their Pyjamas. They ran to us in joy and sat on our laps and started talking about their holiday. We read a book about friendship and it reminded us of the friendship we have with our buddies. Together we made friendship bracelets and had lots of fun and laughter. We gave each other a friendship bracelet at the end of our session. And that is the adventure we had with our buddies!

Cross Country
Everyone's knees were shaking in nerve as the clapper went bang and everyone took off and paced themselves for the 3 kilometer run. As the big group of people started to split apart into smaller groups of people, with first claiming his lead and second and third trailing close behind. The second lap came upon the contestants and then the third and with the finish line being so close but yet so far everyone knew that this was the lap to sprint. So everyone gave it their hardest, 1st was Ryder, 2nd was Tyson, 3rd was Blake, 4th was Daniel, in 5th was Cooper. B, 6th was Mitchell, 7th was Asher, 8th was Kade, 9th was Evan and 10th was Cooper. P.
In 4th place with 599 points was Rafter in 3rd place with 619 points is Bradman in 2nd place with 650 points is Thorpe and in 1st with 703 points…drum roll please - Freeman. Thank you for all the U11s boys who participated in the Rolling Hills Cross Country 2024 and all the parents who volunteered on the day.
