Term 2 Week 4

Assistant Principals Report

Message From Ms Sarah Nobbs

Term 2 Week 4:

Dear Families,

What a great new look our Newsletter is. Very easy to manoeuvre and read. What a busy few weeks we have had, read below to see what we have been up to:

Curriculum Day:

The staff recently participated in a Curriculum Day, which focussed on the Annual Implementation Plan and defining the goals/strategies the school is working towards in 2024. We then moved into the Instructional Model, how it links to the Department documentation and what it looks like at WNPS. Next was rotating some sessions on Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing, specifically focussing on the planning of these areas. Finally, we finished the day updating our Anaphylaxis training, working through our new first drill requirements and completing our learning modules, that are a requirement from the Department. It was certainly a full day, with lot's of learning involved.

Prep Incursions:

Each week, the Prep students have been learning about how people and services can help them. They have had Doctors, Nurses, the Fire Brigade and the Royal Flying Doctor service in to talk about what they offer the community. What are great opportunity to see how these services can help us all!

2025 Prep Enrolments/Information Evening:

On Monday evening, we held the 2025 Prep Information evening. This started with a BBQ dinner and chance for teachers and parents to mingle, whilst enjoying some yummy food. Parents then listened to a variety of teachers speak of the many aspects within the school, then got a taste of some of the lessons that their children will be involved in. The Art lesson was very well received! A big thanks to our current Prep teachers, Kate, Tania and Steven for their insights into what Prep is like. Also to Kaitlyn, Crissy, Giorgia, Jack and Julie P for their assistance with the programs that they run within the school. The Information evening was well received by the parents that attended. School Tours are continuing on a weekly basis. The 2025 Prep enrolments are now open, please contact the school office to receive the relevant information about how to enrol your Prep child/ren for 2025.

Mothers Day/Special Person Stall:

On Thursday 9th May (tomorrow), we will holding our annual Mother's Day/Special Person Stall. Jasmine and Maria, 2 of our fantastic parents, have coordinated the running of the stall, thank you for all your hard work! Also, thanks to the parents helping with the stall tomorrow. Your child can spend up to $5.00 to purchase something nice for you or that special person. If your child/ren forget to bring their money, don't stress, we will keep a list and you can send the money the next day, your child will still be able to purchase a present. We will also be taking donations, with the money being donated towards domestic and family violence charities (i.e.. Mission Australia, White Ribbon Australia and Safesteps). Donations can be made in cash or by eftpos at the office. Let's dig deep and see how much we can raise to support and protect the safety and futures of Women. Please refer to the Newsfeed sent out earlier today by Richard.

Mother's Day/Special Person BBQ Breakfast:

After the success of the Father's Day/Special person breakfast BBQ last year, we can't let our Mother's/Special people miss out. It will be happening again this Friday morning, 10th May, from 8:00am till 9:00am at the front of the Canteen. We will have bacon and egg rolls, vegie burgers, vegan options and gluten free options available for you to indulge in. The coffee van will also be onsite for you to get that morning coffee fix. The BBQ will again be a donation towards domestic and family violence charities, the coffee will be purchased by yourselves. Again, please pop by for some yummy food and a hot drink before your day starts. Thanks to the dad's and helpers for cooking the BBQ tomorrow morning.

Pick Up and Drop Off:

As mentioned previously, please be aware when you are dropping or picking up your child/ren from/at school, check the roads before you turn, check the paths for students walking or riding their bikes. We have had some near misses. Students, remember to look both left and right before you cross the road or driveways.

Please do not park in the 10 minute park out the school for any longer than required, some parents have been parking longer than the 10 minutes. The Loading Bay is for Contractors only, if you park there this stops deliveries and some services for accessing the school. Thanks for your assistance with this.

Have a great rest of the week and next few weeks until our next Newsletter update!

Kind Regards,

Sarah Nobbs

Acting Assistant Principal/Finance Manager

Gardening Working Group

Are you a green thumb?  Do you love gardening?  Do you have sometime to volunteer at school?  Do you have a Working with Children Check (WWCC)?

There will be a number of ‘gardening’ things happening at the school this term.  Below are some of the items that will take place.

  1. Pruning of trees and this will be completed by a qualified arborist according to the annual audit.
  2. Relocating of seedling shrubs that we planted last year.
  3. New trees planted on Melbourne Road frontage and Freyer Street corner
  4. Mulch spread over numerous areas of the school
  5. Watering of new plants at least 3 times a week until fully established
  6. Seedling beds to be planted out and someone to look after these planter boxes
  7. Other items as needed (weeding, general cleaning, etc).

We are trying to get a working group established.  If you can help and have time to assist, please send your email address. Ideally, the group could meet and be assigned ‘duties’ during the week and complete a list of required jobs.

If you have any questions, please contact Belinda via her email address and we will endeavour to answer your questions. Belinda's email address is Belinda.gill@education.vic.gov.au     Looking forward to hearing from you.
