Grade One
General:
It’s hard to believe we are in Week 2 of Term Two! Grade One teachers have been very impressed with the effort that students have been putting in this week. The Grade 1 students showed immense enthusiasm with Active April and a big congratulations to all students who participated this year. They should be proud of and commended for their incredible effort. Students have looked forward to and participated in their first ANZAC Day ceremony and have been so excited when purchasing and wearing their ANZAC badges and poppies.
English:
This term, Grade 1 students will be learning all about information reports. We will be building our research skills, learning about the purpose of a classification. In the last week we have looked at a variety of animals to help prompt student writing. Students have explored different non-fiction texts to further strengthen their understanding of the structure of information reports as well as descriptive and technical language. During Reading this term, we will be focusing on non-fiction texts and completing five finger retells. We will also continue to make predictions and students will share their reading responses with their peers.
Mathematics:
The Grade 1 students have been working hard during Mathematics this term. To begin our Term, we collated data for our grade and our daily laps for Active April where students then used this data to design their own graphs. In the week leading up to Mothers’ Day, we will explore money and practice counting Australian coins before we visit the Mothers’ Day stall. Additionally, throughout this term we will practice telling the time in terms of o’clock and half past through the use of mini clocks as well as recording digitally. Students will also engage with a range of manipulatives to measure the length of different objects around the classroom.
Integrated Studies & RRRR:
This term we will be exploring Change in Integrated Studies. Students will be engaging in hands-on activities that allow them to wonder, predict and explore a variety of changes in the world. Students enjoyed discovering changes in the water cycle last week. In the coming weeks, students will discuss and observe physical changes in their environment including seasons and our school.
