WOW! Term 2, week 3 already! It was so lovely to see all of your children’s smiling faces after the 2-week break and those of you I met in the loop for drop off or pick up. I really enjoyed hearing lots of stories from students about the fun things they did & family time they have enjoyed.

This term is a busy term, including many camps and excursions as our students gain some confidence and independence. This can sometimes be daunting for parents and carers so please let us know if you have any feedback about our camps or excursions program.

Some parents have made contact with me to discuss the increased reports of incidents across our school community.  I would like to assure you we take the safety of our staff and students very seriously. Over the coming weeks we will be having regular drills to practice so the students know what to do should this incident unfold around us. We have been in contact with the security team at Woodgrove Shopping Centre and continue to work with them to support our students to feel safe while enjoying to learn in the Community.

In our continuous effort to recruit staff, we have secured a small group of casual relief teachers who will be taking some of our specialist classes to enable our teachers planning time, we have also secured more Education Support staff. We welcome the following staff to MSS this term.

Teachers:

Jessica T (P08),

Sive (Music),

Katie (Food Technology),

Aine (Music),

Harvey (STEM)

Education Support:

Sienna (P1)

This week I was offsite for 3 days running a workshop in positive practices when working with students with ASD and other learning styles. We were lucky to be able to offer this training to our staff which will support them to develop a deeper understanding of visual structures we implement in our classrooms. I was extremely proud of our staff and leaders who stayed behind, filled the gaps and supported each other while I was away.

Lastly, it has been exciting to watch the building of the Gathering Circle being constructed, the building of the artwork has now been completed and we are now waiting for final touches from artist Ms Simone Thomson, then we will begin to use this beautiful outdoor space for staff and students to gather, reflect and acknowledge.
