Literacy
In Year 3, our students are deeply engaged in a novel study focusing on Roald Dahl's classic book 'Matilda.' They are exploring various aspects of language and literature, including sentence expansion, identifying literary techniques such as hyperbole and metaphors, and connecting these elements to the themes and characters in the novel. This study not only enhances their comprehension and analytical skills but also fosters a love for reading and appreciation for the art of storytelling.
Years 3's have done a fantastic job at incoorporating Onomatopoeia into their writing uses words like
BANG! SPLAT! WOW! WHAM!

Maths
In Year 3, our students are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of maps in mathematics. They are learning to locate various features on a map and describe their positions using a grid reference system. Through engaging activities, they are identifying key features on maps and mastering the skill of using a grid reference to precisely describe the position of these features.

Topic
In our Year 3 and 4 classes, students are delving into the fascinating topic of heat and its various sources. They are learning about the sun, kinetic energy, fire, and electrical devices as providers of heat, understanding that heat is a form of energy transfer that occurs from areas of higher temperature to lower temperature regions. We are also exploring infrared and thermal cameras, discussing their significance and the reasons why firefighters use infrared cameras.
Year 4
Literacy
In Year 4, our students are embarking on a pilot study of the picture storybook "Waves." This anthology-style book weaves together various stories linked by a common theme, providing a rich and immersive reading experience. Throughout this study, students are sharpening their language skills by focusing on prefixes, suffixes, and specific morphemes such as "em," "en," and "ish." In addition, they have recently expanded their vocabulary with words like "forsaken," "humble," "churn," "horizon," and "journey," using these words to construct sentences that demonstrate their understanding. We have also been exploring the structure of compound sentences, employing coordinating conjunctions to connect ideas (FANBOYS). Currently, they are delving into the use of similes as a literary device, enhancing their ability to express ideas creatively and vividly in their writing.

Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on addition and subtraction using concrete materials like MAB blocks and place value charts. Our lessons have centered on addition and subtraction algorithms that involve regrouping and non-regrouping, particularly with 3-digit numbers. This hands-on approach has helped students grasp these concepts more effectively and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical operations. Students will also be focussing on this skill in their homework this week.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all of our students that competed in Cross Country on Wednesday. We are extremely proud of the sportsmanship and effort that all of our students showed.

Students that didnt go to Cross Country were fortunate enough to stay back at school and put their creative hats on and build some impressive structure using Green Hats.
