Junior School News
Excursion to Chesterfield Farm
Last week, our junior school students had an absolutely delightful excursion to Chesterfield farm, which proved to be both entertaining and educational. The children enjoyed a range of hands-on activities from petting baby animals in the nursery to learning about the process of taking milk from cows and to our supermarkets. We are immensely grateful to all the mums who volunteered their time to join us. Your presence enriched the experience, ensuring that it was not only a fun outing but also a safe for all the children involved. Thank you!
Prep News
This term, our MSL block has truly flourished. In the first hour of their day our Preps are participating in Heggerty, sound pack, phoneme encoding ("write the letter that makes the '/e/' sound"), reading and writing closed syllable words, reading irregular words, explicit handwriting instruction and a skill practice game. They have absolutely blown us away with their eagerness to learn.
During our Writing block, students have been constructing sentences that contain a noun, a verb, a capital letter, and a full stop. Working in pairs, they create a sentence that corresponds with a picture. Over the next few weeks, we will expand on this by teaching them how to enrich their sentences with additional details about 'when' and 'where'.
In Maths we've been exploring how to partition numbers up to 10. We've engaged in some fun activities, such as "Shake and Spill" and reading the book "10 Tiny Ants."
Year One News
In MSL our Year Ones have been learning the 'Rabbit Rule'. This rule helps them understand that when two consonants are found between two vowels, they can divide the word right between those consonants.
In our Writing lessons, students have been focusing on expanding their sentences by incorporating adjectives. By learning to use descriptive words, they are able to add more detail to their sentences.
In Maths, students have been exploring Place Value and the language of 'more' and 'less'.
Year Two News
In MSL our Year Twos are learning the 'pitch' rule (when the /ch/ sound comes straight after a short vowel its spelled 'tch') and 'duck' rule (when the /k/ sound comes straight after a short vowel in a one syllable word we use 'ck').
In Writing, we have concentrated on adverbs and their role in modifying verbs.
Students have been exploring 'length' in Maths and measuring using non standard units of measurement.
Knowledge is poppin' in Year One and Two
Year One and Two student's explored how corn kernels change when heat is added.
