Living with Strength and Kindliness

This time in the school year is always really special for me. It brings with it a sense of joy and light as our days become longer and the weather warms up. There is a sense of excitement as we start to plan for what is coming next but also, as the Year 12s come close to finishing their formal schooling at St Joseph’s, there is an opportunity to reflect on what has passed.

Lots of people in our community, even in my family, are farmers and this time of year brings with it the beauty of the canola fields. As I drive past these each day, I am aware of the work and conditions that these need to flourish. I can’t help but draw parallels between this and the growth of our community and students, particularly our Year 12s.

As just like the canola fields, our students are in a constant stage of development, needing the right conditions to flourish. It takes the whole community to foster their growth, parents, staff, coaches, friends and the community as a whole - each individual plays a unique role for our young people contributing their own expertise, guidance and care.

I am also reminded of the scripture from Matthew - “You are the light of the World.”  Our community flourishes when we all have the courage to share our gifts to support one another.

As our Year 12 students prepare to leave, it's important to recognise the collective effort and sharing of gifts that has gone into nurturing them. They carry with them the lessons, support, and love of our community, ready to face the world with confidence and resilience.

Last weekend we gathered with St Mary’s Parish to celebrate the Parish Mass with the Delany, Chisholm and Brigid Houses. It was wonderful to come together with our wider community and unite in prayer.  We look forward to continuing to find ways to be together.
