Last Tuesday we celebrated the amazing achievements of our music students at our annual Spring Concert. Bands and soloists performed to a packed hall, while families enjoyed pizzas and picnics and cheered for their children.

We farewelled our outgoing Year 12 students, who have given so much of their time to rehearsals and performances over the past 6 years. It was a true BHS community celebration, with so many parents, teachers and students working together to make the night a success. Particular thanks to the Hodge McAvaney family for coordinating parent helpers for the evening, to Leanne Mitchell for coordinating table decorations, to all the families who contributed flowers for tables, to Cherie Brown for organising the pizzas, to Jo Tyson for dessert boxes and drinks sales, to the Coulson family for the jelly bean guess, and our fabulous Band Captains, Georgia, PJ, Allison and Oscar, for their professional efficiency in MCing the evening. Behind the scenes, thanks to our roadie crew Blair, Tom, Izaiah, Will and Caleb, to Pat Consedine and Christopher McAvaney for sound, to Kristine Mellens for the program and coordinating student awards, to Dave Ellis and Josh Baker for equipment transport, and most of all to Amanda Linton, Emma Moffatt, and Ashleigh Hunter, for creating such inclusive and positive cultures in their ensembles, that enable students of all levels to perform with confidence and joy for families and friends.

Last Monday we were lucky enough to be invited to participate in the University of Melbourne’s Music Outreach program at Christian College. UoM Brass faculty staff and students ran a fabulous masterclass and performances, finishing with a combined performance from students and staff. This was a fabulous opportunity for our brass students to hear top class brass ensemble performances, and to get some words of wisdom from some of the best brass educators in the state.
