Co-curricular Captains of Summer Sport and the Performing Arts – 2024
I am delighted to inform the College community that the following boys were appointed Captains of their particular areas of interests by Dr Lavorato:

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and commend these fine young gentlemen on their leadership roles. I have every confidence that they will lead by example and will support and guide the boys around them in a positive manner.
Below you will find a copy of Dr Lavorato’s introductions prior to presenting these boys with their leadership badges:
Cricket
The 2024 Captain of the First XI Cricket Team, has been participating in the Cricket program since his enrolment at the College in Year 5. He has been a member of the First XI for the past three seasons and played Second XI Cricket as a Year 8 student. As an Opens Cricket player, he was selected in the ISA representative team at the beginning of 2022. Away from the College, he is a playing for the Sydney Cricket Club, where last season he led the U16’s Green Shield team. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Jack Roberts as Captain of the First XI Cricket team.
Basketball
This year's Captain of Basketball has shown consistent dedication to the sport, starting his basketball commitments at SPC in the 13As, continuing in the 14As, 15As and placed in the First V Basketball team for two seasons. While he has been a quiet achiever, his presence on the court cannot be missed. His approachable and humble nature, along with the respect from the team and staff make him the ideal candidate for the role. His coach described him as "the epitome of what it means to wear the black jersey. His hustle, heart and dedication to his teammates, the coaching staff and himself is always showcased both on and off the court". It is with great pleasure I announce the Captain of Basketball for the 2024 year is, Matthew Boys.
Baseball
This year's Captain of Baseball has proven himself a leader, who goes above and beyond to motivate, educate, and lead his peers. He was the keystone pitcher in the First IX’s 2022/23 championship run and has represented the College with distinction. His selection for the Ryde Hawks resulted in him becoming an Australian Senior League Champion, affording him the opportunity to play for and represent Australia in the 2023 Senior League World Series in South Carolina. Off the field he has garnered the respect of his teammates and continually shares his knowledge to their benefit. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Samuel Avvenevole as Captain of Baseball 2024.
Swimming Captain
This year’s Captain of Swimming has consistently represented the College in his chosen sport with distinction and demonstrated a high level of commitment and great sportsmanship. His first season of involvement in the Senior School’s Swimming Program saw him crowned 12 Years Age Champion and last season saw him and his teammates finish third at the NSW CIS Swimming Championships in the 16’s 4 x 50m relay team. Most importantly, he is well-liked by his teammates, he is humble, is most approachable and will lead with a calming sense of authority. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Jaiken Poon as Captain of Swimming for 2024.
Swimming Vice-Captain
This year’s Vice-Captain of Swimming has consistently represented the College in his chosen sport for the full duration of his Senior School years with distinction. He is also an accomplished Water Polo player who gained representative honours with the ISA. His willingness to be fully involved is highlighted by the fact that he has also represented the College in Tennis, Band Program, Football and Basketball over the past 5 years. His happy go lucky and out-going nature is recognised, appreciated, and respected by his peers and this makes him the ideal candidate. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Declan Trainor as Vice-Captain of Swimming for 2024.
Performing Arts Captain
This year’s Performing Arts Captain has been a part of the Co-curricular Band and Orchestral programs continuously since Year 5. He is now Principal Trumpet in both the Concert Band and Orchestra and also plays Trumpet 1 in the College’s Jazz Orchestra. He always shows the utmost commitment to the groups, going above and beyond what would usually be expected. He had a pivotal role in the band’s recent second place at the State Band Championships and is often called upon by the College and outside organisations to perform the Last Post for ANZAC day services. He also takes part In the College Performing Arts Productions as part of the band and acts as a vital member of the stage and production crew. He is a humble young man who leads with passion for the arts. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Henry O’Reilly as Captain of Performing Arts for 2024.
Performing Arts Vice-Captain
This year’s Vice-Captain of Performing Arts has consistently represented the College in a range of Performing Arts endeavours for the full duration of his Senior School years. He is a strong performer who has graced the stage in the College’s sold-out Performing Arts Productions for the last four years and has a keen interest in Theatresports. He is also an accomplished trumpet player who played in the band’s recent second-placed at the State Band Championships. He is always willing to step in and provide support for the College’s Performing Arts endeavours. It is with great pleasure that I now appoint Isaac Edmonds as Vice-Captain of Performing Arts for 2024.

CSDA State Finalists!
Our amazing 8A Debating Team will be facing off against a regional opponent at the CSDA State Finals. The finals will be held on the evening of 17 November at St Patrick’s College, Campbelltown at 6:00 PM. We would love to see as many supporters attend as possible – so mark the evening in your calendar and head out to Campbelltown for a thought-provoking debate.
