RoboCup Jr Robotics

On Saturday 3 September, JMSS entered 2 teams (Maroos and Blue Cows) into the Robocup Junior State robotics competition. We entered in the soccer category with one team in the Simple Simon League and one in the Standard League. The competition involves programming 2 Lego robots per team to play soccer with an infrared soccer ball.

The team worked hard in and out of co-curricular sessions to build and program the robot in preparation for the competition.

On the competition day, all teams in each league play a round robin and then the finals matches if they finish on top of their pool. Team JMSS won their matches in the Standard league and finished on top of 12 teams (which included Melbourne High LETSGO), and won almost all of their matches in the Simple Simon League, against 10 other teams. Both teams had a 40+ goal difference which is an amazing achievement in itself. This led to the finals where both teams won their semi and grand finals, achieving the title of State Champions. A great performance by the team on the day who stayed calm under the pressure of running the robots throughout the day and in the finals.

Thank you to the teachers who made it possible and for the support: Dr Denney, Ms Ayoubi and Mr Mackinnon.

Congratulations to the team for all their resilience and hard work to achieve these results.

Blue Cows (Simple Simon): Steph Ludekens, Kripa Shrestha

The Maroos (Standard League): Skye Sriratana, Nick Rowe, Sharane Gowritharan and Chris Frentiu.
