Jeremy Mackinnon

Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to acknowledge the effort of both staff and students during the term. It was a massive term. It concluded with two huge events; Yr 10 & 11 Formal and Battle of the Bands (to occur on the last day). Seeing our students’ attitude to take up any and all opportunities is always so pleasing. You never cease to amaze me.

On another note, the increase in staff and students getting sick was quite noticeable in the latter part of the term. Please use the holiday period to rest and recharge. I understand that most will have some degree of school work to do, however, a balanced approach is essential. I particularly encourage Yr 12 students to study in chunks with sufficient breaks in between and to do ‘bucket-filling’ activities. Bake with a parent, do a random act of kindness, go to the movies with friends, or walk the dog! Yr 12 is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourselves over the last few months.

Student Leadership

The end of Term 3 sees the current student leadership positions finishing. This year’s student leaders have done an outstanding job at establishing the new leadership model of Parliament, Town Hall and Portfolios. I have greatly enjoyed working with this year’s leaders and know each of them will go on to do amazing things in the future. They have laid the foundations for next year’s leaders to continue growing student voice and agency at our wonderful school.

I want thank all students who applied for a leadership position in 2024 (more than 220 applications). The effort that went into the process was exceptional. For those students who were not fortunate enough to obtain a formal leadership position, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to develop your leadership skills further and contribute to this fantastic school.

This email is primarily about allowing JMSS to support a student’s needs outside of the classroom. If the email is of an urgent matter regarding a student’s immediate safety, please type ‘URGENT’ in the title of the email. For academic support, please direct those emails to either the subject teacher or the student’s mentor.

Finally, I wish to remind everyone of several important contacts over the holiday period. If anyone is experiencing significant distress, please contact any of the organisations below;

I hope staff and students can enjoy a well-earned break.
