Staughton Vs Bacchus Marsh

On Thursday the 5th of October, the Year 7 & 8 Boys cricketers finally had their chance to get on the field after weeks of training. They came up against Bacchus Marsh in a 20-20 match which was held in perfect conditions across the road at Mt Carberry. Staughton won the toss and elected to bat. The boys got off to a shaky start with Arunveer Singh caught behind on the first ball of the day. Ayden Brown had got a little start but also fell early, putting the pressure on the boys early. After the 3rd over Staughton were 3/23. From then on, some incredible batting came from Jujhar Singh Tamber & Arbaz Khan who put on a 141 run partnership, the likes that have never been seen before at Mt Carberry. Bacchus Marsh had no answers, putting most of their players on the boundary to limit the damage. After this amazing partnership, Jujhar finished with 109 runs, out bowled in the 17th over. Arbaz continued on for another couple of overs finishing with 52 runs, run out. With a total of 198 on the board, Staughton were in a commanding position, with morale quite high heading into the field. The boys managed to keep Bacchus Marsh to a total of 70 after 20 overs with Aruveer chipping in with a couple of wickets, and with Ayden Brown also displaying his bowling prowess, finishing with 2 wickets himself. Having the win was fantastic but what was even more pleasing was the way that the boys held themselves during the game, showing great sportsmanship and encouragement to their team mates. The Year 7 & 8 Boys will now face Gisborne in the coming weeks aiming to reach the WMR Finals.

Divisional Athletics Event

Our Staughton College team competed at Division Athletics at Melton Athletics Centre. Competition was fierce with our students showing great sportsmanship and representing our school very well. Results were mixed throughout the day but our students held their heads high after a competitive performance.

A big congratulations to the following students who won in their respective event and will be moving onto the next round for athletics.

Well done to all involved. We are very proud of their efforts and making it to Division finals and look forward to what they can achieve in the next round.

Yr 8 Boys Basketball.

After a hard-fought try-out period that saw 10 boys selected from 24+, the Year 8s descended upon Cobblebank Stadium to take on several other local schools in basketball.

Put into a challenging group for their 4 matches, the boys fought hard all day. First up the played Sunbury. The boys came out ready to play, keeping within a couple points of Sunbury for much of the first half but unfortunately, they went down by double digits in the end.

The next two games, against Melton Christian College and Gisborne ended with a similar outcome as the boys went down, again by double digits.

Credit to the boys, after a tough day they entered the last game against Heathdale, still locked in and motivated. This attitude gladly paid off. The boys came out firing, constantly attacking the rim to which the Heathdale defence had no answer to. A whole team effort, with some big-time performances from Terry Reader, Omar Abdelaal and Ayden Brown. The boys turning the day around ended up being on the better end of a double-digit win.

Senior Boys Soccer

The Senior (Year 11 and 12) Boys went to Caroline Springs to compete in inter school soccer. Sadly they didn’t make it to the next round despite tying 4-4 in their first game and 1 even in their second game. A special mention to Madiar Chipuowuop being player of the day! Thank you to Mr Deng and Mr Simonovski for taking the boys out for a day that they said was great for team bonding as well as a sneaky McDonalds trip.

Under 16’s Girls Rugby League

On the 10th of August 2023 both girls and boys Under 16’s rugby league teams went to Seabrook Reserve, Broadmeadows to play against other secondary schools. For the boys superversion was Mr Daryl Nayler and for the girls was Mr Ben Russell who both did an amazing job coaching and supporting the players throughout the whole day. The girls first game was against Melton Secondary College where we won 12-0. The second game was Tarneit where we won our second game, 12-4, followed by our third game where we won against Craigieburn, 18-0. I would like to give a special mention to my vice-captain Gabby Vaka for her neverending support that was shown, and also Makarita and Kavangia for their unbelievable skills and ball handling that was not going unnoticed each game. Since winning all three games, the under 16 girls will be going to state finals later this term. I would like to say how proud I am for everyone who contributed on that day, each and every girl who stepped foot on that field proudly representing Staughton College.

Under 16 Boys Rugby League

Alongside the under 16 girls, the Under 16 Boys also went to Seabrook Reserve, Broadmeadows to play against other secondary schools. They were successful with a win against Kurunjang, however walked away with losses against Craigeburn and the Grange. Their effort on the day was outstanding and made Staughton College proud!
