Number & Algebra   I   Measurement & Geometry   I   Statistics & Probability

Place value, addition and subtraction are focus areas for Number and Algebra. The children will be challenged to recognise, represent, and order larger numbers. They will learn to regroup numbers to assist calculations and solve problems and review their skills in partitioning numbers. As the children begin to work with larger numbers, they will learn how to estimate and round to check if their calculations for solving a problem is reasonable. Whilst developing their understanding of the place value of larger numbers, they will focus on addition and subtraction. They will explore equivalent number sentences involving addition and subtraction and will learn strategies to solve problems.

For Measurement and Geometry, the children will review time concepts such as reading and converting time between analogue and digital clocks. They will learn about 24 hour time and will explore time conversions. Following this, the focus will be on length. They will use measuring tools and will develop their understanding of measurement facts and basic conversions. The children will also learn to measure the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes.

The focus for Statistics and Probability is data collection and displays. The children will review strategies for collecting data and will review familiar graphs such as a column graphs and learn how to represent data on alternate graphs.
