Leadership Report
Our wonderful school is always buzzing with energy, and with all the excitement that goes on, it's no wonder Magill is such a busy place bursting with enthusiasm. Here's a quick snapshot of some recent happenings over the last fortnight.
Our Year 3s and 5s deserve a round of applause as their NAPLAN testing has come to a close for 2024. While these assessments are just one tiny piece of the puzzle, witnessing our students wholeheartedly commit themselves to the challenge is always the highlight of the experience. I extend my appreciation to our students for their hard work and dedication.
Our recent collaboration with KESAB (Keep South Australia Beautiful) showcased our commitment to environmental stewardship. Through bin and waste management workshops, our students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of responsible waste disposal and its impact on our school grounds, the wider environment, and the world around them. I encourage our students to continue implementing these eco-friendly practices in their daily routines.
Our junior primary classes had an exciting time participating in Auskick incursions. These activities not only promote physical activity but also instill teamwork, cooperation, and a love for sports among our young learners.
Science came to life for our Year 2 students during a recent incursion about 'Medicine Rattle Making', and our budding scientists in the upper primary years have been deep diving into the fascinating world of biology. From examining preserved specimens (including koalas, eagles, a variety of bugs, and more) to observing living creatures such as mice and stick insects, our students have been immersed in hands-on learning experiences that ignite their curiosity and passion for science. They've gained valuable insights into the diversity of life forms, the magic of adaptation, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems.
Lastly, sixty students across years 4-6 worked incredibly hard on their writing submissions for one of the highlights of my job, the 'Shortt Story Showdown', all of which have been finalised and submitted today. Judging commences in week 9, and I have to admit, it's going to be an impossible task with so many outstanding entries. Stay tuned for announcements of our winners, and the opportunity to read their incredible pieces of writing that are sure to impress. And as always, my crew and I have been busy capturing the magic of learning inside classrooms across all year levels. We're excited to edit and polish our first Inside Magill episode for 2024, coming at the end of term.
In addition to these specific events and experiences, I want to acknowledge the multitude of daily achievements and experiences that make our school community so special. From the small victories in each and every one of our thirty classrooms, to the bonds formed on the playground, every single moment contributes to the rich environment of learning and personal growth here at Magill School.
As we look ahead, we have two four-day weeks approaching with the Easter break. This time offers an opportunity for our students to recharge, spend quality time with family, and engage in activities that rejuvenate their spirits.
As always, I extend my gratitude to our passionate and dedicated staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic students for their ongoing commitment to excellence, and making this place truly worth the alarm each morning.
