Year 3/4 Team

What’s been happening in 3/4!

Our 3/4 students have had a fantastic start to the year as they have settled into the Learning Community and begun forming new friendships within their grades. We have had a focus through the Learning Community on developing routines, ensuring we are organised for our learning and setting ourselves up for success.

Our wellbeing lessons have focused on helping students understand and express their feelings throughout the day. Through interactive activities and class discussions, students have been identifying the different emotions they may feel at school. They have then brainstormed different scenarios that can cause them to feel this way and strategies they can use to best support themselves and their classmates during the school day.

In English, we have seen high levels of enthusiasm and engagement in our students as they develop their reading comprehension and writing skills through our exploration of the text Gangsta Granny. While reading, students have utilised ‘Turn and Talks’ which provide them with opportunities to discuss the text and make connections to their own lives

and experiences. They have been practising making predictions, summarising chapters, and using evidence to infer how characters might be feeling. Students have been able to use their understanding of the text and author’s choices to develop their own narrative writing techniques.

In Maths, students have explored the concepts of Time, Addition & Subtraction and Mapping. Through rich tasks and open-ended questions students have shown resilience when entering the ‘learning pit’ and embracing new challenges. They have been encouraged to share their thinking and strategies, as well as utilise resources from our maths trolley to support their thinking.

We cannot wait to continue our learning in Term 2!
