Year 10 Deep Learning History
This term, students in the Deep Learning History class experienced life in ancient Egypt by carving out hieroglyphics on clay! Below is one of the student's reflection of their experience:
Today in our History DL class, we were able to create hieroglyphic tablets by carving hieroglyphic symbols into clay. It was a lot of fun to do and I feel that it really enhanced my view on how the ancient Egyptians were able to create such elaborate stories in the stones that made up the walls of tombs. Even with our modern equipment, I still struggled to carve a neat and legible sentence which gave me a greater level of appreciation for the Egyptian scribes and the effort they put into their art for us thousands of years later to enjoy and learn about. It was challenging but also very enjoyable and if I could, I’d do it again.

Year 9 Excursion to Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre
As part of the Year 9 Program, students experienced their first excursion into the city to attend the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in Albert Park.
Students had the opportunity to engage in several water-based activities in the morning, including the wave pool, inflatables and diving boards. In the afternoon students participated in a variety of sports such as basketball, squash and table tennis. An immersive experience such as this provides opportunities for students to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. It also helps students to build healthy relationships with their peers, become more comfortable with catching public transport and being a responsible member of the community.
The Year 9’s had a fantastic day out and are already looking forward to their next excursion in Term 2 to indoor rock climbing.

Extended Investigation Excursion to Top Talks
On Friday 1st March the Year 11 and 12 Extended Investigation class attended Top Talks at the State Library of Victoria, as part of the VCE Season of Excellence.
During Top Talks we heard four of last year’s outstanding Extended Investigation oral presentations. It was great to see the diversity in students’ research interests and approaches. Our students asked questions of the presenters regarding their motivations for choosing the focus of their research project.
Later in the day, during visits to both the University of Melbourne and Kathleen Syme Library, past VUSC Extended Investigation students Zoe Beazley, Cassandra Davidson and Crislin Rosete met with the class to share their advice and experiences in completing Extended Investigation.
