Dear Parents and Guardians,

Unlocking the World of Reading at OLHC

I am delighted to share with you the essence of our Prep - 2  reading program here at OLHC. As educators, it is our commitment to equip our students with the foundational skills necessary for a lifetime of successful literacy. Guided by the principles of the Science of Reading and direction from MACS 2030 strategic plan (which can be found in this week's newsletter), our approach is grounded in evidence-based research, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to flourish as confident readers, writers, and spellers.

The science of reading is a vast realm, encompassing decades of interdisciplinary research from across the globe. This body of knowledge illuminates the intricacies of how proficient reading and writing develop, identifies challenges some learners may face, and offers effective strategies for intervention and support. At OLHC, we embrace the insights gleaned from this research to shape our reading program for the benefit of every student.

Central to our approach is the Little Learners Love Literacy® program, a framework designed to instill in children a love for reading and empower them with the skills to decode text with confidence. This explicit and sequential literacy approach ensures that every child receives targeted instruction tailored to their developmental stage, fostering a solid foundation for future learning.

Our Seven Stages sequence serves as a roadmap, guiding students through their literacy journey without ever overwhelming them. Through the use of Decodable Books, our students engage with text that is perfectly matched to their current abilities, allowing them to apply their learning and build their reading prowess.

Little Learners Love Literacy® isn't just a program; it's an immersive experience filled with engaging activities. From focused explicit lessons to interactive games, crafts, music and more.

We invite all members of our school community to witness firsthand our junior reading program by visiting our junior classrooms. It's an opportunity to witness the program firsthand.

At OLHC, we believe that literacy is the key to unlocking a world of opportunities for our students. With our robust reading program rooted in the science of reading, we are laying the groundwork for their future success.

Warm regards,
