Whole School Learning Unit

In Term 2, all students will take part in a whole school STEM inquiry unit. This topic coincides with the theme of the annual Education Week running from Sunday 13th May until Friday 17th May.

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year’s theme is ‘Spotlight on STEM', celebrating the collaboration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Open Afternoon

To celebrate Education Week, Rangeview Primary School will be having an open afternoon on Monday 13th May, from 2.45pm until 4.30pm.

Classrooms will be open to see the work of our fabulous students, an 'Author's Chair' will run to hear the creative writing pieces of our students and there will be performances in the hall. Watch out for more information in the coming weeks.

Level 5 and 6 STEM

This term in STEM, Level 5 and 6 have started working with the LEGO Spike Prime robotics. This week, students have been coding their own animations on the unique 5x5 light display on the front of the hub. The simple visual requires our children to really think deeply about what they would like to animate and how they're going to represent it in only 25 pixels. We've had a huge array of exciting creations including vintage games like Tetris, Snake and Pong and really interesting interpretations of Geometry Dash and Pacman! We also had fireworks, funny faces, a conversation with an animated face and even an interactive pixel you could move around the screen!

It was an amazing lesson to see students creating things I could never have expected and only using one piece from these amazing robotics kits.

Level 1 and 2 Building and Construction Incursion

On Tuesday 16th May, Thursday 18th May and Friday 19th May, our Level 1 and 2 students participated in the Building and Construction Incursion. Through fantastic, hands-on activities, this exciting 90-minute incursion combined student’s natural creativity with basic engineering concepts. Students explored the properties of different materials and looked at the building strength of different shapes. The incursion was packed full of fun activities supported by passionate science educators. Students were guided through each activity step by step, prompting prediction, observation and reflection.
