Year 6 Report

The Grade 6 students have had an amazing start to 2024! We are so proud of their efforts.

Literacy

During Literacy in Term 1, students have worked on building their ability to analyse and critique a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Students have explored the themes of these texts and have explained how their text features have added to the overall enjoyment of reading them.

During Writing, students have been using a range of persuasive advertising strategies to create their own advertisement and marketing campaign. Students worked towards discovering why and how advertisements are made, who they are targeted at, how their slogans are created and what language techniques advertisers use to sell a product. Here are some of their amazing advertising posters and persuasive speeches!

Numeracy

In Numeracy this Term, Grade 6 students began building upon their place value knowledge. Students used this knowledge and a variety of place value strategies to understand powers of 10. Students began to explore the concept of multiplication and have been working hard to build their fluency. Students have also applied their multiplication knowledge to measurement, capacity and volume.

Inquiry

During Inquiry in Semester 1, students explored the difference between needs and wants while identifying influences on consumer choices. They have considered strategies that can be used to help make informed personal consumer and financial choices. Students are beginning to use their new knowledge to plan a market stall towards the end of next term!

Social and Emotional Learning

Students have been building upon their courage to apologise when making mistakes. Students have had rich conversations about choices they can make and how it can impact those around them. Students have been investigating the importance of having a growth mindset in and out of the classroom, and have explored concept of positive and negative self-talk.
