PHYSICAL EDUCATION

A Great Term in PE!

Congratulations to all students on a fantastic Term One in Physical Education!

Our Grade 3–6 students showed great commitment during their athletics training and are now turning their focus to cross-country, starting off with the Beep Test. A special shoutout to our Grade 5/6 students who proudly represented Ripponlea at the Balaclava District Round Robin. Your teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship were outstanding!

Meanwhile, our Foundation and Grade 1/2 students have been working hard on developing their fundamental locomotor skills such as running, jumping, hopping, and skipping. They’ve also made impressive progress in learning how to manage big emotions during sport and play, while beginning to identify their own learning goals and reflect on the skills they’re developing.

It’s been an exciting and active start to the year, and I’m incredibly proud of all students for their enthusiasm, resilience, and growth. Well done, Rippers!

LOTE (JAPANESE)

It has been great to see students learning Japanese. We only had 7 lessons - that is only 7 hours or less.

Junior students have been practising four songs. Greeting song, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Number song and a song called “あるこう、あるこう” (Arukou, Arukou) means walking, walking in English. Many students can already sing their favourite song by themselves without my help.

They are also counting one to ten in Japanese.

Middle and senior students have been practising to sing the Hiragana song and to read some words.

Repetition is the key to mastery. As we repeat and revise what we have learnt, some students have already memorised and start to be able to read some words. If not, they can use the Hiragana chart to support themselves.

They also use Japanese words and phrases they have learnt in class. Great to hear greetings and simple responses in Japanese in and outside the classroom.

What a great joy to teach them. Thank you.
