Term 3 In Year 3
Dear Families, welcome to Term 3. I continue to be impressed by the commitment Year 3 students show our school values. We are all looking forward to another fantastic term focused on academic growth and personal development. The following is an outline of our key learning areas.
Curriculum News
English
This term in English, we will embark on a journey back in time to investigate the incredible civilisations of Ancient Rome and Greece, exploring how their stories, innovations, and communities have impacted the world we live in today. This fascinating historical context will connect all areas of our literacy learning. Students will continue to strengthen their foundational phonological skills through our Spell Mastery program, while our reading sessions will use a variety of engaging books to build comprehension and expand vocabulary. They will then use their new knowledge to create and edit their own informative and imaginative writing pieces, learning to develop character traits and interesting settings.
Maths
Our Mathematics program this term is designed to build connections between key mathematical ideas. Students will enhance their problem-solving skills by exploring the relationship between multiplication and division. A significant focus will be on understanding parts of a whole through our unit on fractions and decimals. Students will learn to confidently read, write, and model these numbers, seeing how a concept like one-half is connected to the decimal 0.5. A large focus will be having an ongoing love for mathematics and understanding that math is everywhere!
Wellbeing
Our 4 school values are RESPECT, KINDNESS, CARE and PERSONAL BEST. Our 4 learning dispositions COMMITMENT, CURIOSITY, COURAGE, COLLABORATION.
This term we are focusing on CARE. A great way to support your child’s understanding of care is by modelling caring behaviours at home—such as helping others, showing empathy, and taking responsibility for shared spaces—and pointing out everyday examples where care is shown.
Reminders
📌 Morning Routine: Please ensure your child is at school on time. Students should line up in roll order when the music plays, ready to enter the classroom when the bell rings.
📌 School Uniform: Turrun Primary School strongly encourage the use of our winter uniform during our colder months. Please ensure that we continue to wear our sports uniform on the appropriate days.
📌 Lunchboxes & Water Bottles: It is fantastic to see such wonderful healthy lunchboxes, please continue to send rubbish-free lunch boxes.
📌 Reading Folders: Students should bring their reading folder to school every week on our Library day, so we change readers that will support their learning at home and in class.
