Term 3 In Foundation

As we reach the halfway point of the school year, we are filled with pride at how much our Foundation students have grown! It’s been wonderful to see each child settle so confidently into the rhythms and routines of school life. Their independence, curiosity and willingness to have a go continue to shine each day.

Term 3 is set to be a busy but exciting one! We’re looking forward to celebrating 100 Days of Turrun, dressing up and diving into stories during Book Week, and building water confidence and safety

skills through the Splash Swimming Program.

This term, we will continue to build on our learning through a range of rich and engaging experiences. Here’s what we will be focusing on across key areas:

English

This term in English, we will be diving into the exciting world of dinosaurs! Students will explore the Mesozoic Era, including the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, while building their vocabulary, comprehension and background knowledge. They will continue developing their reading and writing skills in Sounds Write by working with digraphs (two letters that make one sound) and blending 4- and 5-sound words.

We will also continue using our Story Champs program to strengthen students’ oral language and storytelling skills. As part of our English learning, we will be studying a range of picture storybooks to help students explore character, setting and structure, and build their understanding of different types of texts. Students will also practise handwriting and work on writing short, independent pieces with growing confidence.

Maths

This term in Maths, Foundation students will focus on Addition and Subtraction, Measurement and Sharing and Grouping through a mix of hands-on activities, explicit teaching and open-ended tasks.

In Addition and Subtraction, students will learn to combine and separate groups, use counting strategies like counting on and back, and solve simple number problems using objects and drawings. In Measurement, they’ll compare and order objects by length, mass, and capacity using everyday items like blocks and cups, building their understanding of measurement language and concepts. In Sharing and Grouping, students will explore how to make equal groups and share fairly, laying the foundation for future multiplication and division.

Wellbeing

This term, we are focusing on the value of Care and the learning disposition of Curiosity. We are encouraging students to show kindness, compassion, and care in their words and actions, and to stay curious by asking questions and exploring new ideas. Families can support this at home by celebrating caring behaviours and encouraging children’s natural wonder in everyday moments.

Reminders

Arrive on Time It’s important that students arrive before the music plays each

morning so they can start the day feeling calm, connected, and ready to learn.

🧣 School Uniform As the weather cools down, please ensure your child has a clearly labelled jumper or jacket each day. From the beginning of Term 3, if students wish to wear beanies and scarves to stay warm, they must wear the school-branded Turrun beanies and scarves.

📖 Nightly Reading Please support your child by reading their decodable reader each night and recording it in their Reading Journal. Regular practice helps build fluency and confidence.

📚 Fridays – Library & Home Reading Materials Every Friday, please ensure your child brings their Library Satchel so they can borrow a new library book, receive their updated decodable reader and collect new Sounds Write Unit words in their blue folder.

📌 Upcoming Events Keep an eye on Xuno for important dates and special events happening this term!
