Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

After what feels like the longest, hottest summer, we are finally feeling the temperature drop which means changes in the kitchen/garden program. That last burst of heat brought us more cucumbers, zucchini, corn and tomatoes which have all been thoroughly enjoyed at The Patch Café.
To use up the last of our summer produce the students have prepared a variety of tastings like zucchini slice, corn and lettuce sweet salad and tomato and cucumber salsa served with baked pita chips. We have also prepared and frozen our yearly nut free basil pesto, ready to use in a future menu.
We are now in Autumn, and in the Kitchen/Garden program we are learning the seasons in Japanese. The name for Autumn in Japanese is Aki.
Our Year 3 students have now prepared their first full menu, consisting of a fresh summer salsa served with baked pita bread chips. We then enjoyed dark chocolate and coconut bliss balls as a tasty, sweet treat. Simple new learning included setting a table correctly, hand washing and drying dishes, sanitising benches and setting up equipment for the next class.
A very big thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who help our students prepare, clean and achieve success in The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
Itadakimasu!
