It is with immense pleasure and pride that I inform the College community that our Principal Michael Horne has been awarded a Doctor of Education from The University of Melbourne.
Michael’s DEd thesis investigated teacher-researchers’ experiences of undertaking action research studying their own teaching practice. Action research is commonly used in Australian schools as a structure for professional learning, with the benefits stated variously as enhanced collaboration, greater understanding of students’ needs, improved teacher practice, and evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions. Michael developed a new model for school leaders and policy makers for successfully implementing action research in schools and, in further credit to him, has been invited to present the findings of his research at the 21st Biennial Conference of the International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching conference in Glasgow in July this year.
All of us can appreciate the significance of Michael’s achievement, especially as it has coincided with the relocation of his family and the professional demands of the role of Principal. We can be proud of the contribution that will be made by our Principal to national and international educational forums and inspired by the fine example he sets as a lifelong learner.
Hats off to you Dr Horne. We look forward to admiring your new regalia.
