Junior School

Term 1 – A Rich and Rewarding Term
As we come to the end of another rich and rewarding term, it is a wonderful time to reflect on the journey our students have taken under the overarching theme of Connection. This theme has come to life across all year levels in a variety of meaningful and age-appropriate ways. Our youngest learners have been exploring their local community – discovering the roles of different people who help, places that bring us together, and the importance of belonging. A highlight for our Prep students was a special visit from Pastor Graham, who shared stories from our College’s history and reminded them of the strong sense of faith and community that continues to shape our school today. These early insights help build a foundation of gratitude and connection that will grow with them throughout their school journey.
At the other end of our Junior School, our Year 6 students have been exploring the broader concept of community by delving into the Australian political system, learning how leadership, representation, and civic responsibility shape the nation in which we live. This was all brought together by an amazing opportunity, as they travelled together as a cohort to visit our nation’s capital – Canberra.
At the heart of all these experiences is a deepening understanding of what it means to be part of something bigger than ourselves. This aligns beautifully with our College theme verse for the year, John 15:5-6:
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me, you can do nothing.
This verse reminds us that true community is rooted in connection with one another and with Christ. Just as branches draw life from the vine, we are sustained, guided and strengthened when we remain connected to Him and to the communities He has placed us in. Whether it is in a classroom, a neighbourhood, or a nation, we are called to contribute, to care and to grow together.

House Athletics Carnival
On Tuesday 25 March, our Year 3-6 students came together for a day of competition, teamwork and school spirit at the House Athletics Carnival. The oval was alive with energy as students gave their best in a wide range of events, including sprints, relays, long jump and shot put. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and sportsmanship on display, with every participant contributing valuable points towards their House total. A big congratulations to all students for their effort and participation, and a special shoutout to the Gibeon Warriors (Red House), who emerged as the overall champions for the day! Thank you to the many parents and family members who came along to cheer from the sidelines. Your presence added to the excitement. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Carolyn Connelly for her organisation and leadership in making the day such a success.

Wedding Congratulations
We are delighted to share the news that Mr Jack Stewart, one of our much-loved Learning Support Assistants, was married last Saturday to Jacynta, who has previously worked as a Speech Therapist in Junior School. We could not be happier for them as they begin their exciting new chapter together. On behalf of the Oxley community, we offer our heartfelt congratulations to Mr Stewart and Jacynta, and we pray for God’s richest blessings over their marriage in the years to come.
Easter and Incredible Hope
As we prepare to enter the Easter break, our hearts are drawn once again to the incredible hope we have in Jesus. His death and resurrection are not just historical events – they are the foundation of a living, breathing hope that sustains us each day. Our hope is grounded in the unshakable reality of Jesus Christ, who defeated death and rose from the grave. Phil Wickham’s song Living Hope beautifully captures this truth, declaring:
Then came the morning that sealed the promise, Your buried body began to breathe.
What a powerful reminder that our hope is alive because Jesus is alive!
Hebrews 9:16 tells us,
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
In Christ, we are anchored no matter what storms we may face. As a school community, may we enter this Easter season grounded in that truth, rejoicing in the risen Saviour who is our Living Hope. Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Easter. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 2.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to His great mercy, has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3
