Year 9 Camp

On Wednesday 19 March, our Year 9s travelled to Cape Otway for their three-day challenge camp. Students hiked, mountain biked and enjoyed general camping activities such as cooking and initiative games. It was wonderful to see them embrace each challenge and show fantastic teamwork as they supported one another throughout the camp.

Student Reflections

Overall, camp was a challenging, but fruitful experience. I’m glad that I did it and overcame the physical and mental challenges placed in front of me. The hiking was the most difficult part as we had to carry all our clothes and supplies. The first hike was hilly, and the uphills were probably the hardest part. Our highlight was putting down the packs after four hours of hiking and celebrating with delicious burritos. On the last day, we climbed over a mountain and reached a beautiful sea cove. The last kilometre of the hike involved a huge flight of stairs, but after we got through it, we were proud of ourselves and of each other.

Camp was a fantastic way to bond with new people, make new friends through shared experiences and make new memories and one of our favourite activities was biking. The trails were full of twists and turns, and we went through a bunch of bumpy and steep hills, each one offering a new adventure. Talking to people during the camp made the experience even more fun, as you get to share stories, tips, and laughs with one another, building a sense of community and making the experience even more memorable. The fresh air and the rush of adrenaline as we sped up and down the hills and the rush of air as we peddled through the beautiful scenery added to the fun. It was a great way to explore the area, bond with others and overall, a very fun experience, Biking became one of the highlights of camp and I left with memories of a lifetime.
