From the Director of Junior School

Mrs Melissa Thirgood

Dear Junior School families,

As we move through the final weeks of the term, we also find ourselves in the heart of the season of Lent – a time for reflection, growth and renewal. While the season is often associated with fasting or giving things up, it’s also an opportunity for all of us to think about how we can make small changes in our lives that can have a big impact on others.

Lent invites us to slow down and reflect on our actions, our relationships and our personal growth. It’s a time to focus on kindness, generosity and self-discipline, with the goal of becoming better people – not just for us, but for the communities we are a part of.

For our school community, this season is a chance to come together and support each other in positive ways. We encourage families to reflect on how they can make space for kindness, compassion and giving throughout this time.

Year 6 Canberra Trip

Next week our Year 6 students and teachers will be embarking on an interstate educational excursion that aligns with our HaSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) curriculum, offering students the chance to explore Australia’s political history, government and cultural heritage firsthand. During the trip, students will visit key landmarks, including Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and the National Museum (plus many more), bringing their classroom learning to life. It’s an invaluable opportunity to deepen their understanding of civics, history and Australia’s identity. We look forward to seeing them engage with these significant experiences!

Bottom playground on Harrington Street

A reminder to families that our bottom playground equipment on Harrington Street is not accessible to studentsbefore 8.30am and after3.00pm due to our Work Health and Safety protocols. We thank you for your cooperation in supporting our duty staff in asking your children NOT to play on this equipment and being respectful toward them if they ask your child to refrain from playing on it.

Junior School mobile phone use before and after school

We ask families to remind their children that mobile phones are not to be used or seen before or after school for ALL students in the Junior School. We only permit those students whose parents are contacting them to arrange specific pick-up arrangements after 3.00pm to have access to their phone to check messages or answer phone calls.

Early Years Assembly

Thank you to the Year 2 Potoroos for leading our Early Years Assembly and presenting some of their work to their early years' peers. It is so lovely to see our young students being celebrated and sharing a snapshot of their learning.
