Feast of the Annunciation

On Tuesday 25 March, our College celebrated the Feast of the Annunciation, inviting us to reflect on hope, faith and new beginnings.

This special feast day commemorates the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, announcing that she would become the mother of Jesus.

Students and staff in our Senior School began the morning with a liturgy in the Nagle Centre, while Junior School students attended liturgies in our chapel and shared Annunciation prayers in their classrooms. During these celebrations, we were reminded of Mary's example by saying 'yes' with a loving and generous heart.

We commend all students for celebrating the liturgies with reverence and respect. We look forward to soon participating in our Palm Sunday liturgy and Stations of the Cross, as our term draws to a close.

Harmony Day: We all belong

Friday 21 March saw our students unite in a joyful celebration of Harmony Day. With many nations, cultures and traditions represented at the College, the day was a colourful showcase of diversity and all that makes us unique as a community.

On the College Green, our Prefect for Wellbeing, Olivia Hunniford-Webb, and Prefect for Social Justice, Grace Marshall, led the way with engaging activities including chatterbox-making and face painting, while cups of hot chocolate were enjoyed by students of all ages.

It was fantastic to see so many students adding a splash of orange to their uniforms – symbolising harmony and inclusiveness – and wearing crazy socks for Neurodiversity Celebration Week, which sparked some excellent and thought-provoking conversations.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the event such a great success.

To celebrate our cultural diversity at SMC, the Senior School Justice Action Group has created a display showcasing the various languages spoken by our students and families.

Celebrating the Lenten Season

This coming Monday, our Kinder to Year 5 students will join together for a Palm Sunday Liturgy in the Nagle Centre. Palm fronds in hand, students will commemorate Jesus' entry to Jerusalem with a special performance full of songs and prayers.

Our Easter celebrations will continue throughout the week with a Stations of the Cross liturgy for students from Prep to Year 12 on the last day of term, Thursday 10 April.

Preparations for this liturgy are currently underway, led by Senior Drama Teacher Mrs Sally Lewry. Senior Drama students and members of the Inservio team are also involved, ensuring that it will be a special and solemn occasion reflecting on the final moments of Jesus' life.
