5/6 News

Welcome to our last Newsletter for Term One.

This year at TPS we are learning Auslan - Learning any new language helps students develop better communication skills. Auslan, as a visual and spatial language, challenges students to think in new ways, improve their non-verbal communication, and pay attention to body language, facial expressions, and spatial awareness. Last week students learned how to sign their name, I'm sure if you ask them they will show you. They may even be able to sign your name also!!

Please be reminded that aerosol cans are not permitted at school.  If your child needs to use deodorant please pack a roll-on in their bags.

Inquiry Expo - please join our 5/6 students on Tuesday 1st of April at 2.30pm in their classrooms to see all the wonderful work they have completed this term.

Our Inquiry topic for this term has been Ethics and Emotions - giving students the opportunity to find out and explore who they are as a person and consider their own values. They have also learnt about the pressures they can feel from social media and their peers and how they might cope with this and what they can say if they feel pressured doing something that they know isn't right.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish our 5/6 students and families a very happy and safe Easter break. Enjoy some time together and take time to recharge your batteries. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Tuesday the 22nd April.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is a student leadership program where elected students turn up at around 8am and learn the skills of how to prepare, cook and clean up delicious, scrumptious and special culinary breakfasts for all of the students in our school. Often Kane and Luca get to school first at 7:55am and set up the toaster. They make some really nice toast. On the toast they spread vegemite, honey and butter. Every week they do the Breakfast Club program on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. They also make delicious rewards for students who show the 3 R's of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. For this they make chocolate milkshakes on Tuesdays, pancakes on Wednesdays and finally cheese toasties on Thursdays. In this program our amazing leaders are Kane, Luca, Ollie, Kayden, Ezekeil and Nate. A big thank you to Brett and Mrs Harvey for helping us to do this.

Team Tennis Reports

On the 27 of March, most of the the Grade 5/6 students went to the Echuca United Netball Courts to play team tennis.

To start the day off we got on the bus at 9am to get there by 9:30. We started to play at 10am. We had to play six games in total in the five hours we were there. The players were so good. We did not have a good chance of winning. After the mixed team played their last game, the girls played and we were all cheering for them. A big thank you to Mrs Young, Mrs Holyman and Brayden for taking us and giving us a great day out of the classroom.
